China-Taiwan Conflict and Authoritative Claim
Mid-20th century crisis of the Chinese civil war between the People’s Republic of China(PRC) and the Republic of China(ROC) resulted in fierce armed conflict over the strategic island in the Taiwan Strait. Mao, the then leader of China wanted him to be the ‘Man behind the reunification’.
The China-Taiwan conflict history suggests that Mao was aware of the fact that the People’s Liberation Army(PLA) did not have the capacity as well as resources to cross the Taiwan strait. As a matter of fact, the PLA did not even have a properly furnished navy to cross the strait and capture the island.
In the 1950s, the intervention of the US in the crisis further escalated the dispute between communist-ruled mainland China and Kuomintang-ruled Taiwan. In frustration, PRC bombarded the two islands Kinmen and Matsu controlled by the ROC.
This was again repeated in 1958. But even the incident of two bombardment episodes did not help the People’s Liberation Army to take over the two islands. So in this way, the first and second Taiwan strait crisis takes place.
Recent Developments in China-Taiwan Conflict
Amid the Russo-Ukrainian war, the geopolitical crisis is strangled and becoming complicated these days. But this global situation tends to become more serious and deteriorate in the near future because China has increased its hostility towards the takeover of Taiwan.
The US is already taking an active and dominant part in the Ukrainian-Russia war and is very much involved in the China-Taiwan conflict also. FBI and CIA think that China is silently observing how the other countries of the world are responding to the current Russo-Ukrainian crisis.
The recent visit of US leader Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in August 2022 escalated the high-flame tension between Beijing and Washington also. China then conducted a massive-scale of Military exercise in seawater around Taiwan, sending clear messages to both Taipei and Washington.
Since the August episode, The People’s Liberation Army strategically conducting the duo Sea-Air Military power presentation around Taiwan sending clear signals to both Taipei and Washington. Most certainly the military showoff can be deciphered as the preparation to invade Taiwan.
The World and the China-Taiwan Conflict
This is well clear that if China will attack Taiwan in near future then the response to this crisis will be led by the US and its allies. Countries like Japan, South Korea, and Australia will be part of allies against China. Japan and S. Korea have defense ties with the US but they also have strong economic relations with China.
If we look at Europe, which is currently busy with the Russo-Ukrainian crisis by providing a united front against Russia. Europe is involved with both financial and military capacity(Indirect) in the current war. Because the Ukrainian invasion is hitting hard to Europe.
It is clearly ambiguous whether Europe is willing to engage in China-Taiwan’s possible crisis or not. Because Europe is seeing the chaos and horror of the Russia-Ukraine war very closely and also experiencing it.
As always India is in observation mode and it will certainly react in real-time crisis if that happens. Though China is also observing India, Israel, and other Gulf Nations and allies of the US in their response to the ongoing war.
One most peculiar fact about China is that it has very significant and strategic economic ties with many countries of the World and this particular trait provides it confidence in some manners. What it will do with Taiwan is not an undercover thing, the World is well aware of that but when it will do it, No one knows.
