New Delhi: Swashbuckling Indian batters Suryakumar Yadav and Smriti Mandana were nominated as the ICC T-20 cricketer of the year in men’s and women’s categories, for their outstanding performance in the shortest format of the game in 2022.
India’s Mr.360, Suryakumar Yadav had a sensational 2022 in the T-20I format of the game and became the second batter to score more than 1000 runs in a calendar year in the format. While Smriti is on the verge of getting the award 2nd time for her tremendous performance.
Suryakumar has been nominated along with England all-rounder Sam Curran, Pakistan wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan and Zimbabwe’s batting all-rounder Sikandar Raza for the award in the men’s category.
While, Smriti has been nominated along with Pakistan’s bowling all-rounder Nida Dar, New Zealand’s Sophie Devine, and Australian Tahlia Mcgrath in the women’s category for the honor.
Surya’s Remarkable Journey:
The 31-year-old batter had incredible success this year with a reflecting consistency. He finished this year as the highest run scorer in the format with 1164 runs at a strike rate of 187.43, which is tremendous. He also smashed 68 sixes in the calendar year, which is the highest by any individual in the format. Suryakumar is just the second batter to score 1000+ runs in the format after Rizwan Ahmed.

Last year, Smriti Mandhana was the ICC women’s T20 Cricketer of the Year, again she is in the picture of consistency in the shortest format.
Smriti Mandana scored 594 runs in 23 matches. She also broke the record of the fifty in the format by smashing in just 23 balls and also breach the record of the 2500-run mark in T-20. Smriti enjoyed this year with the fruitful runs. Smriti’s most exciting inning of 2022 came into the 2nd match of the Bilateral Australia series.
