The Vande Bharat train was officially launched in Kolkata by the prime minister through video conference.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Vande Bharat Express, which connects Howrah and New Jalpaiguri in Kolkata. He also dedicated the Joka-Taratla segment of the Kolkata Metro’s Purple Line. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and other leaders were presented in Howrah for the event. After attending his mother Hiraben Modi’s funeral rites in Gandhinagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated development projects worth Rs 7,800 crore in West Bengal in the presence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.This was one of the several events the Prime Minister was slated to visit in Kolkata.
The motto “Vande Mataram” was first used on the ground where the Vande Bharat train was launched, Prime Minister Modi remarked in a statement regarding the occasion. Launching the Vande Bharat train on December 30 is noteworthy because Netaji raised the tricolour in the Andamans in 1943. New Jalpaiguri is one of many railway stations being built along airport lines.

This Vande Bharat Superfast train will be outfitted with cutting-edge technology. The Vande Bharat train will take around 7.5 hours to travel from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri. On January 1st, 2024, the first semi-high-speed train in eastern India will set off on its inaugural route from Howrah (HWH) to New Jalpaiguri (NJP).
Through the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and the Internet, passengers can purchase tickets for this blue and white train. Given that there is a quota for this train, the traveller may also purchase Tatkal tickets. Concessionary reservations are not, however, accepted.
The Howrah-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express ticket sales have commenced through the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
There will be two different carriage types on the train: the AC Chair Car (CC) and the Executive Chair Car (EC). In this train, there is also a food selection. However, catering costs will be subtracted from the fare if someone choose the No Food Option.
The first indigenous semi-high-speed train in the nation, the Vande Bharat Express, is currently operating on six routes. On February 15, 2019, the inaugural Vande Bharat train between New Delhi and Varanasi was operated. After that, it travels between Mysore and Chennai, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, New Delhi and Amb Andaura, and Delhi to Katra. The Vande Bharat Express between Nagpur and Bilaspur is the most recent train on this list.
During the ceremony in Howrah, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee conveyed condolences to PM Modi on the death of PM Modi’s mother, Heeraben Modi. She stated that today is a difficult day for you. Your mother is also our mother. Please rest, and may God give you the strength to continue your work.
