Joly received the warning as she wrapped up a three-country tour with her European Union counterpart in Brussels, following stops in Ukraine and France. Russia has deployed nearly 100,000 troops, tanks and other heavy equipment along Ukraine’s borders, raising concerns of an invasion across Europe. Russia has disputed this intention.

On Thursday, Joly and her European Union counterpart, Josep Borrell, projected a warm image of transatlantic solidarity at a news conference.
If Russia takes additional military action to undermine Ukrainian sovereignty, Joly said Canada would join its friends in slapping punitive sanctions on Russian officials.
“Russia has two options under the freshly initiated diplomatic process: serious conversation or harsh consequences,” Joly added.
“Of course, we value the EU’s cooperation on a variety of deterrence measures, including economic sanctions. Canada will be prepared to take additional steps, especially in the financial sector.”
However, no new Canadian measures were revealed.
On Thursday, the US imposed further restrictions on four pro-Russian Ukrainians, including two sitting members of parliament who are suspected of being involved in Russian intelligence services’ ongoing disinformation activities.
According to Joly, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is considering “a range of solutions,” who is gathering information this week.
According to Canadians of Ukrainian origin, Joly travelled to Europe with nothing substantial to provide in response to a series of requests from Ukraine. More sanctions, a pledge to help provide Ukraine’s military with weaponry, and an extension of Canada’s military training mission for Ukraine forces beyond March 31 are among them.
