Tensions between India and the UK have escalated following an incident in which the Indian national flag was pulled down during a protest by pro-Khalistan activists outside the Indian high commission in London. Several videos of the incident were circulated on social media, prompting the Indian external affairs ministry to summon the British deputy high commissioner, Christina Scott, and demand an explanation for the absence of UK security personnel. The incident has sparked outrage in India, with authorities calling for the identification and prosecution of those involved, and accusing the UK government of failing to protect Indian diplomatic premises and personnel.
Ministry of external affairs summoned British Deputy High Commissioner, Christina Scott after a video showing a man pulling down Indian National Flag outside the Indian mission in the United Kingdom, went viral on social media platforms. The flag was bought down by pro-Khalistani activists. The Ministry of External Affairs has summoned the top diplomat as a symbol of protest over the inactiveness of the United Kingdom’s government over the issue. The Ministry of external affairs issued a notification claiming that a protest was launched with Scott against separatist and extremist activists. Further, an information clarification was demanded due to the complete inactiveness of the British government and inactiveness of British security which allowed these elements to enter the premises. Indian government further reminded Scott that it is UK’s basic obligation under the Vienna Convention as well
Images of shattered windows and people climbing the Indian House building in the UK spread like a wildfire on social media platforms. In the video, a man can be seen grabbing the Indian national flag through the 1st-floor window of the mission and pulling it down replacing it with a Khalistani-flag hanging over.
The Khalistani activist archivists can be seen preaching “Khalistan Zindabad” and raising Anti-Indian slogans. They can also be seen showing posters supporting Amrit Pal Singh as well.
This news comes across the backdrop of the chase of Khalistani sympathizer Amritpal Singh and supporters in Punjab. Amritsar Singh is a radical Khalistani preacher who has been on the run since the Punjab police launched a massive crackdown operation on Saturday arresting 78 members of his alliance.
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi’s statement tweeted that the UK Government is anticipated to promptly take measures to apprehend and charge all individuals responsible for the recent incident and implement strict measures to avoid any future incidents.
UK Commissioner further tweeted condemning the incident and terming it as disgraceful. He further said that these incidents are completely unacceptable in the international community
