Syria’s point of view
According to Syria’s state-run media outlet, on 22nd March, an airstrike was carried out by The Israeli Air Force in the early hours of Wednesday morning at the airport in Aleppo, a northern Syrian city.
No causalities had been reported. According to a state news agency, some damage had been reported at the airport. As per one war monitor, a suspected arms depot was destroyed by an Israeli air strike. The depot was allegedly used by Iran-backed militias such as Hezbollah. It was the second such strike conducted by the Israeli air force in the month of March on Aleppo International Airport.
An official notice known as NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) was sent by Syrian aviation authorities saying the runway was closed at the airport.
The Syrian defense ministry says……….
The Syrian defense ministry in a statement said that around 3:55 AM, the enemy Israel conducted an air strike targeting Aleppo International Airport, cause to some material damage. A number of missiles were fired from Latakia, the Mediterranean west of the coastal city.
The transport ministry said all flights to be directed to Damascus or to Latakia as the strikes caused damage to airport equipment and runway.
While speaking to the news outlet, two unnamed “regional intelligence sources” said that an underground munitions depot which is located at the adjacent Nairab military airport was also targeted. Missile–guided systems were used to store at the site. These systems had been delivered by an Iranian cargo flight, the sources said.
On Wednesday, the Israeli army said that they do not comment on reports in the foreign media. A standard answer by the Israeli army when questioned about such strikes. Later that day in a separate statement, the Israeli army said on Twitter that one of their drones during a routine operation went down in Syria. There was no risk of information leaking due to the incident, the army added.
Earlier, on March 7, three people were killed in a strike conducted by Israel at the airport. It halted air traffic including relief flights. The airport went out of service for a few days.
Israel had conducted hundreds of air strikes against Syria, it’s neighbor since the civil war which started in 2011. Syrian army installation, Iranian forces, and Hezbollah which are allies of the Syrian regime are primary targets of Israel.

According to Western intelligence sources, Iran is expanding its presence in military terms over the years and now with thousands of militias and other armed groups under its command, in most of the state-controlled areas, Iran has footholds.
In recent months, Israel has intensified its attacks on Aleppo and Damascus airports. The objective is to disrupt military supplies through aerial routes by Iran.
Last month, 15 people were killed in an Israeli air strike in the Damascus district housing state security agencies
In January, the Syrian army said missiles were fired toward the Damascus International Airport by Israel which put the airport out of service and also killed two soldiers.
Last August, Israel was accused by Syria behind two consecutive airstrikes, one at Aleppo International Airport and the other at a site near the Damascus Airport. It was assumed that Israel was boosting its efforts to counter Iran as the use of commercial flights to bring military supplies by Tehran into the country is growing.
