The man was booked by the Antop Hill police after seven women complained about their pictures being circulated as call girls on social media for the past five years.
Last week, the police filed a case against a guy named Shubham Gadlinge and arrested him. The man was booked by the Antop Hill police after seven women complained about their pictures being circulated as call girls on social media for the past five years. The women claimed that their friend Shubham Gadlinge was the culprit.
Police suspected that more than 200 women had been the victims. The complaints informed that Subham had taken their photos and videos from their social media handles. He posted their pictures through his fake accounts on Instagram and Telegram and termed them, prostitutes.
The women said that Shubham sent their pictures to his followers privately and assured them of a sexual encounter in exchange for money. The complaints have asked the police to take strict action against him. The women who have complained belong to the age group of 12-25 and are his friends. Shubham is a 22-year-old commerce graduate, and his parents had planned for him to send Canada for further studies.
Earlier too, the girl’s parents had beaten him up
Before a few years, when he was caught sending photos of women to random people on social media, the parents of one of the complaints had beaten him up. A minor from Wadala said that before a few days, her friends informed her about her photos that were getting viral on social media. She was shocked. She knew about Shubham’s acts as he was beaten by her parents earlier.
When she confronted him, he denied it at first, but afterwards, he accepted the same. She immediately registered an FIR against him. Later she found out that many of her friends too were his victims, and he should be punished for what he had done.
The culprit was suffering from depression
The victim’s parents said that a few years, he posted their daughter’s photo as a call girl on social media for which they had beaten him up. His parents had requested not to file a case against him and claimed that he was going through depression. He did not stop still, and the police should take strict action against him.
Obscene comments on the photos
Another victim said that Shubham had created fake accounts on Instagram and Telegram, adding hundreds of unknown people. Later, he asked his followers to choose any girl’s profile, and then he used to take screenshots of all the posts with his followers. The victims were unaware as they were mutual friends with him.
Another victim said that women and girls who follow him should unfollow him immediately. The comments on their photos posted by Shubham were obscene and very objectifying. He should be put behind bars. The victim’s parents said that the comments on their daughter’s photos were vulgar, and many people had asked for the rates. This was very hurtful to them. They said that the followers who have commented should also be arrested.
The culprit was undergoing treatment: Family
The police had filed a case against Shubham Gadlinge and arrested him last week. But he was released on bail after one day of his arrest. The Police officers said that Shubham was disturbed for three or four years due to his failed relationship. They said that he was undergoing treatment.
Senior inspector Nasir Kulkarni said, “We have arrested the accused Shubham Gadlinge for posting photographs of minors and women on social media. We have recorded statements of two-three girls. We suspect there are more than 150-200 victims. We did not get his sufficient police custody as he was released on bail last week.” “His family told us that he was suffering from depression. We are checking his medical documents.
