India’s top wrestlers- Bajirang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshee Malik, who were leading the wrestlers’ protest, have resumed their jobs in the railway department.
These three wrestlers resumed their work on May 31, after the wrestlers who were protesting were evicted from Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where they have been processing since April.
Both Wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat have denied the reports that claim that they have withdrawn their protest, which is running from April.
Sakshi Malik is reported saying, this is their fight for justice, and they are not going to step back until they receive justice. She further added we three have resumed duties for Railways, but we will diligently also work for our future.
The wrestlers also visited “Amit Shah”, the home minister of India on Saturday evening. They requested the Home Minister for an impartial probe against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. He is accused of sexual harassment by female wrestlers, including a minor. Amit Shah said that the law is equal for everyone, and let the law take its course. Justice will be given to the innocent and deserving.
Sakshi Malik said that they had a very general and easy conversation with the Home Minister. We only want Brij Bhushan Singh to be arrested. Sakshi further added they will continue their protest until they get justice.
According to reports, wrestlers wanted to have a meeting with Amit Shah, when the five-day deadline given for action against the wrestling federation ended on Saturday.
Protesting wrestlers claim that their plea for the arrest of the chief of the wrestling federation is being largely ignored, so they announced their decision of throwing their medals in the river Ganga in Haridwar. However, they temporarily changed this plan, when Farmer leader Naresh Tikait intervened and had a talk with the team.
Earlier, the cops of Delhi accused the wrestlers, who were protesting, of rioting during the protest march to the new parliament. The police complained that they broke the law in aggression, despite repeated requests.
A few of the wrestlers were detained during their march on May 28. Photos of Sangeeta Phagot and her cousin Vinesh Phagot being pinned on the ground caused outrage and shock across the country. Several users displayed their disappointment on social media.
Cops of Delhi, who were able to shut the Jantar Mantar site for protesters after a lot of crackdowns, said wrestlers will not be allowed to protest at India Gate.
Police have filed two FIRS against the chief of the Wrestling Federation, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. One of the FIR is based on a collective complaint of six adult wrestlers, and the second one is based on a complaint done by the Father of a female wrestler.
The protest by the wrestlers has now gained support from sports veterans and farmers from Haryana. They all have come in support of the protesting wrestlers.
On the international front, UWW( the United World Wrestling), the sports governing organization, has condemned the detention of wrestlers and criticized the lack of results in the investigation front.
The UWW reminded IOA of its duty to hold an election for the wrestling federation chief, failing which, the India Olympic Organization can be suspended permanently.
Indian wrestlers have managed to bring laurels to the nation on various occasions. Their hard work and dedication are highly commendable and should be appreciated.
