Wrestler’s Father admitted to making false allegations against Brij Bhushan
Sharan Singh.
The father of the minor wrestler, whose complaint led to a POCSO case against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, now states that they made false allegations against him.
In a surprising turn of events, the father of the minor wrestler, who filed a complaint leading to a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh by the Delhi Police, now asserts that he and his daughter fabricated certain “false allegations” against the Wrestling Federation of India chief.
Allegations were made out of Anger
The father of the girl, who gave a new statement to the magistrate in New Delhi on June 5, explained that the WFI chief did not sexually harass his daughter. However, he stated that the chief’s behavior towards her was “partial in nature.” The father admitted that the allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan were made “out of anger” because his daughter had lost in the final of last year’s trials for the Asian Championship.
Wrestler’s Father had not withdrawn the complaint
Despite the fresh statements, the father clarified that they had not withdrawn the previous complaint. He highlighted that the match duty staff and the opposing wrestler were both from Delhi, which he deemed illegal.
The father acknowledged changing his statement, stating that some allegations were true while others were false.
He clarified that Brij Bhushan had not sexually harassed his daughter but exhibited biased behavior towards her. The father also mentioned receiving threatening calls but chose not to disclose the callers’ identities. He emphasized that he had independently decided to re-record his statement, without any external influence.
The Wrestler’s father made it clear that they do not hold any grudge against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. On June 5, they provided fresh statements and made changes to some of their earlier statements. As a father, he expressed his desire to avoid getting entangled in the conflict.
He clarified that they did not withdraw the complaint but rather submitted new statements. The father acknowledged that in anger, they had made false allegations, and his daughter had faced certain difficulties.
the Wrestler’s father mentioned that their entire family is currently grappling with depression, and his primary objective is to support his daughter in becoming a champion. He also stated that both he and his daughter were out of New Delhi, visiting a religious site, in recent days. Following claims made by the girl’s uncle (Tau) that she is not a minor, the Delhi Police filed a second FIR based on a complaint from the girl’s father.
On May 10, the girl provided her statement before a magistrate in New Delhi under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) against Brij Bhushan. The girl’s father alleged that the WFI chief forcefully pulled her towards him and sexually harassed her, which deeply disturbed her and subsequently led to health issues.
Meanwhile, the protesting wrestlers temporarily suspended their agitation until June 15 after receiving assurance from the government that a chargesheet would be filed against Brij Bhushan by that time and federation elections would be conducted by the end of the month.
Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik met with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, following a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding their demands.
The wrestlers have been demanding Brij Bhushan’s arrest, accusing him of sexually exploiting women wrestlers, including the minor in question.
Malik and Punia stated that after a five-hour meeting, they were assured that the FIRs against them would be withdrawn.
Protest not over yet
Although the wrestlers and their supporters were booked for violating law and order on May 28 when they marched towards the new Parliament building without permission, Malik and Punia clarified that their protest is not yet over. They have merely suspended it until June 15 as requested by the government.
