New RAW Chief: IPS Ravi Sinha

IPS officer Ravi Sinha has been chosen to lead the prestigious Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) as its new chief. The appointment of Sinha, a seasoned professional with a remarkable track record, brings a fresh perspective to India’s primary intelligence agency. Ravi Sinha is currently the Special Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat and a 1988 batch officer of the Indian Police Service. The newly appointed RAW chief is known for his efforts in incorporating cutting-edge technology into the realm of intelligence collection.

Previous RAW Chief

Samant Kumar Goel assumed the position of RAW Chief in June 2019 for a tenure of two years. Goel completes his 4-year tenure as Chief of R&AW on the 30th of June as a result of two additional one-year extensions.  

Widely acknowledged for his expertise, Goel played a crucial role in strategizing the surgical strike in Pakistan’s Balakot in February 2019.  This operation was a direct response to the heinous Pulwama terror attack, which resulted in the tragic loss of 40 CRPF personnel. 

During his tenure as the Chief of RAW, Samant Goel led the agency in significantly increasing its capabilities and strengthening the system, thus making substantial contributions to India’s national security. His strategic wisdom, combined with an unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s interests, has earned him profound respect and admiration within the intelligence community.
