June 27 2024. Christopher Nolan, the British-American filmmaker, talked about his upcoming film Oppenheimer on a recent interview with Wired. While talking about his other film Inception, he said that the Oppenheimer ending shares an interesting relationship with his film Inception that was released back in 2010.
Inception was a sci-fi drama and was more focused on the subconscious and conscious world whereas Oppenheimer is more of a Biographical piece but nevertheless there are some similarities in both the films.
Inception was one of Nolan’s Blockbuster films that was released back in 2010. On the ending of inception, Cobb, the role that was played by Leonardo DiCaprio is seen to go back home accompanied by his father-in-law and before going, he could check whether he is in a dream or in the real world through a spinning top which was named Mal’s Totem. But instead, he decides to ignore it and proceeds to go join his family.
Nolan mentions that the ending of inception and Oppenheimer are quite alike. Highlighting that the ambiguity at the end of inception is not emotional but an intellectual one for the audience. Then he says that this shared an interesting relationship with the ending of Oppenheimer. Nolan is famous for giving his films some mind-boggling endings twisting the real world according to his story. Nolan reinvented the batman with the Dark Knight series and later on proceeded to make films on some of his original ideas which were also very successful. For example, Interstellar, Tenet, Prestige etc.
Oppenheimer premiers on the 21st of July and is one of the most anticipated films of the year 2024 along with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie which also releases on the same date. Oppenheimer stars Cillian Murphy in its lead role who was very popular for his role in the drama series Peaky Blinders. This cast also includes Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr and Florence Pugh.
Oppenheimer is based upon the story of the father of the Atom bomb who tries to find a way to save the world but also could have easily destroyed it. This also follows the real events of the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
Looking at the production, Nolan made this film very unique which also makes it so sought after. He had refrained from using animations and CGI and tried to keep the events very real which will make the viewers feel more included in the whole scene. The models used in the films were very large and almost life sized and along with that, real explosives were used to copy the effects of the original atom bomb detonation that had taken place. Looking at its cinematography, Nolan’s Oppenheimer shot this in two different IMAX films and this is the first movie ever to use IMAX Black and White film as well.
Oppenheimer is set to release on the 21st on various type of cinemas for example, the standard cinema, the IMAX 70 mm, standard 70mm etc. The first trailer of the film was released back in December of 2022.
