Snapchat has introduced a new safety feature that would allow users to disclose their real-time location with pals for 15 minutes or a few hours.Â
“Since 2017, we’ve given Snapchatters the choice to share their location with their friends on the Snap Map when using Snapchat, and now, more than 250 million Snapchatters use the Map to connect with their friends each month,” Snapchat said in a news release.Â
Snapchat users will soon be able to share their location with specific friends instantly. It should be emphasized that there is no way to communicate real-time location information to all of your Snap pals at once.Â
According to the company, both parties must accept each other as Snapchat buddies before they may use this feature. When they use the feature for the first time, a pop-up will display reminding them that this tool is exclusively for close friends and family.Â
Furthermore, transparent design with reminders in Profiles and Chat will ensure users always know who can see their whereabouts. Snap claims that limited time-sharing and notification-free pauses will “reduce the risk of stalking or undue pressure to always share.”Â
Meanwhile, location sharing has always been and will continue to be disabled by default, which means Snapchat users must always opt-in to share their location with their Snapchat friends.
“Whereabouts sharing is only available to friends; Snapchatters cannot broadcast their location with the entire community.”
Snap chatters have complete discretion over who they share their whereabouts with–for example; they can choose to share with only a select group of close friends,” the business noted.Â
In other news, Snapchat announced that it is taking steps to address the growing problem of drug abuse on its platform. These steps are intended to combat the “Fentanyl Epidemic,“ which has become a significant problem in the United States.
And messaging platforms like Snapchat make it simple for dealers to communicate with kids in order to sell these illegal narcotics.
