Narendra Modi’s outreach to the Muslim world has been praised as “exemplary”, according to Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor . He also noted that the Modi government has achieved success in making the G20 a “buzzword”, but expressed reservations regarding the country’s policy towards China, which goes beyond the prohibition of Chinese applications.
Shashi Tharoor is an author, a politician, and a former international civil servant. Today, he is a third-term Member of the Lok Sabha from the Kerala state in the state of Tamil Nadu.
He is also the Chairperson of the parliamentary standing committee on information technology. Before that, he was the Minister of State for human resources development and minister of state for external affairs in the government of India.
Tharoor expressed his opinion on the foreign policy of the Modi government, noting that he had been critical at the start of the administration. However, he concluded that the current administration has covered a broad range of issues in a satisfactory manner.
Tharoor’s Remark Towards Modi
Mr. Tharoor recalled that during his first year as Prime Minister, Mr. Modi visited a total of 27 countries, none of which were considered to be part of the Islamic world. As a Congress MP, Mr. Tharoor made a public statement expressing his disapproval of this.
However, he noted that since then, Mr. Modi’s outreach to the Muslim world has been of the highest quality, in fact, it has been even better than before. Relations between India and the major Muslim nations have improved significantly. He was pleased to be able to backtrack on his initial criticism.
In Tharoor’s own words,“I remember, in the first year of Modi’s prime ministership, he travelled to 27 countries and not one of those was an Islamic country. I made a fuss about that as a Congress MP. But I am delighted to say what he has done subsequently to outreach to the Islamic world has been exemplary. In fact, it couldn’t have been better. Our relations with the major Muslim countries have never been better. I am happy to take back my early criticism,” Tharoor said.
On one hand Tharoor is presenting plus appreciating PM Modi’s good initiative. On the other hand, Amit Malviya, the IT-cell leader of the BJP, commented on the statement made by Tharoor. He stated that Tharoor may have been speaking in a state of weakness, but he was speaking the truth.
Tharoor said that if the opposition is to defeat the BJP in the next Lok Sabha election in 2024, the opposition must agree on a minimum programme.
Further, The Congress leader praised India for its successful implementation of the G20 Summit and its ability to draw attention to the country. He asserted that the world could no longer ignore India due to the development of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy.
Subsequent Allegation with Praisal
However, Tharoor claimed that the government appeared to give China a “blank cheque” for India’s violations.
Tharoor said that India’s relations with China have reached a point where there is no clarity on the government’s policy towards China. There is no debate on China in Parliament, and the ban on Chinese apps is just a formality, Tharoor said.
