Despite international pressure, Ukrainian invasion starts with “horrific” explosions in Kyiv. Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a “full-scale invasion” on Thursday that resulted in the deaths of 137 people in one of Europe’s deadliest crises since World War II.
On Day 2 of Russia’s invasion, “horrific missile strikes” jolted Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, according to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who added on Twitter: “The last time our capital suffered anything like this was in 1941 when it was invaded by Nazi Germany.”
Military strikes on major cities, including Kyiv, were carried out by land, air, and water. Social media was swamped with images of devastation as world leaders expressed their shock and issued urgent appeals for moderation and calm.
Over 1,700 people have been imprisoned in Russia as a result of massive anti-Kyiv protests.
