Ayushmann Khurrana‘s recent film, ‘Dream Girl 2,’ made a remarkable debut at the box office on its opening day. In this movie, Ayushmann once again embodies the beloved character of ‘Pooja’. The film is currently gathering a range of responses from both critics and the audience. It managed to gather a substantial amount of Rs 9.70 crore in India on its initial day, based on early estimates.
Star-Studded Cast and Director
In ‘Dream Girl 2,’ Ayushmann takes on the dual roles of Pooja and Karam, while Ananya Panday portrays Pari. In this humorous film, you’ll also see Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Asrani, Abhishek Banerjee, Manjot Singh, and Seema Pahwa sharing the screen. This comedic delight hit the screens on August 25. Just like the first film, Raaj Shaandilyaa directed this sequel. Produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under the Balaji Telefilms banner, the movie had a budget of Rs 35 crore.
Strong Opening Day Advance Bookings
Film critic Taran Adarsh shared that the advance booking for the first day showed strong numbers at national cinema chains. By Thursday at 10:30 a.m., around 26,550 tickets were sold, with PVR selling 14,150 tickets, Inox selling 6,300, and Cinepolis selling 6,100 tickets. National chains contributed about 60 percent of the film’s first-day earnings, totaling around Rs 5.35 crore.
‘Akelli’ Slow Start Despite Positive Reviews

On the other hand, Nushrratt Bharuccha‘s solo film ‘Akelli’ received positive reviews from critics but had a slow start at the box office, earning only Rs 20 lakhs on its first day. The film revolves around a young girl’s escape from the clutches of ISIS terrorists in Mosul, Iraq, and her return to India.
Box Office Highlights: Results of the Released Films
Sunny Deol‘s ‘Gadar 2’ continues to perform well at the box office, with a total collection of Rs 425.10 crore. The film collected nearly Rs 7 crore on its fifteenth day. However, Akshay Kumar‘s ‘OMG 2’ and Rajinikanth‘s ‘Jailer’ are experiencing different trajectories. ‘OMG 2′ is slowing down with a net collection of Rs 1.80 crores on its fifteenth day, while Thaliava’s Jailer’ has crossed Rs 300 crores in India within 16 days.
‘Dream Girl 2019: A Blockbuster Success
Reflecting on the success of the first installment, ‘Dream Girl,’ released on September 13, 2019, was a surprise blockbuster that entered the 100 Crore Club. The film centers around a cross gender actor with a talent for impersonating a female voice, shedding light on themes of depression and loneliness. It features Nushrratt Bharuccha opposite Ayushmann, along with Annu Kapoor and Manjot Singh. ‘Dream Girl’ was a critical and commercial hit, grossing around Rs 148 crore in India and over Rs 200 crore worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films in 2019.
