Jio which has become a household name since 2016 has laid out its roadmap to lead India into the future with its technology.
Reliance Jio, under the leadership of chairman Mukesh Ambani, is making significant strides in the telecom industry, particularly with its transition from 4G to 5G technology. Ambani revealed that they are fully capable of upgrading its 4G users to 5G without any additional capital expenditure. This move showcases its commitment to innovation and seamless technology transitions.
During the 46th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited, Ambani presented the company’s future vision to shareholders, focusing on several key segments that will shape the company’s growth trajectory. The consumer segment will be powered by Jio 5G and JioBharat, with a strong emphasis on delivering digital services to even those who can’t afford any type of smartphone. Jio 5G is being actively rolled out while JioBharat is a 4G phone priced at Rupees 999 to help bring the 4G revolution to the masses who can’t afford a high end smartphone.
Jio is going to launch another product in its home segment Jio AirFiber, which is basically JioFiber without the need for a wired connection and delivering 5G speeds which will potentially redefine how Indian homes are experienced and managed. AirFiber will be a plug-n-play device without the hassle of setting up a dedicated infrastructure.
Ambani further highlighted the company’s commitment to technology transformation by announcing the Jio True 5G Lab and the Jio True 5G Developer platform. These initiatives will facilitate the development, testing, and co-creation of industry-specific solutions, accelerating the integration of its own 5G network with innovative applications and services.
Acknowledging the increasing importance of 5G in India, Ambani stated that more than 80% of data consumption occurs indoors, prompting the need for tailored solutions. He states that Indian business owners and businesses will benefit from this because of their affordability and the power that it can give them to scale up.
Its ambitions extend to being one of the pioneers in developing 6G capabilities globally. Mukesh Ambani proudly shared that the company’s 5G rollout is powered by its own in-house developed 5G stack, boasting advanced technologies such as Standalone 5G architecture, Carrier Aggregation, and Network Slicing, all supported by advanced AI/ML capabilities. Jio has also utilized its 5G stack to launch commercial services on the Millimetre-wave spectrum, which will enhance private 5G, home broadband, and enterprise use cases. He also highlights that its 5G infrastructure was made in India and that it can easily be used in offshore markets highlighting its power that exceeds national borders.
In an impressive feat, Jio aims to cover the entire country with its 5G network by December. The company is focused on providing high-quality connectivity to all corners of India, and with the rapid expansion of its 5G network, it’s already a significant presence in over 96% of the census towns.
He also highlighted the role of AI and that they will lead the charge in developing AI models for India and related solutions to deliver the benefit to every Indian. Citing the pace of the global AI revolution Ambani said that India needed to harness AI to continue to grow in the future and keep up with others. To that end Ambani pledged to create upto 2000 MW of AI computing capacity through its Jio Platforms. He promised to bring AI to every Indian just like they delivered broadband to every Indian.
