India vs Sri Lanka: In his next Test match, Axar Patel will need fourteen more wickets to match the record which has passed the test of time for the last 133 years.Â
Axar Patel was earlier announced as a part of India’s Test squad for the upcoming match against Sri Lanka to be played in Bengaluru on Saturday. If selected in the first eleven, the left-arm spinner will face the tough challenge of picking fourteen wickets to touch the unequalled record.
If he gets the spot to be the third spinner in the team, he will also face the Ashwin and Jadeja challenge who are known to pick up their fair share of wickets in home matches. Â
Axar made his brilliant Test debut for India against England last year. He helped the hosts, India to turn the series in their favour finishing off the series with 27 wickets in his bag.
His good fortune continued in Kanpur as he picked a fifer against New Zealand in the first innings. This gave him a chance to reach the fifty-wicket mark fastest in Test Cricket history.Â
Axar’s next three innings only got him 4 wickets. Consequently, he now has 36 wickets in his bag after 5 Test matches.  Australian cricketer Charles Turner holds the record to have picked the fastest 50 wickets in Test Cricket.
He achieved the milestone in only six Test matches in 1880.  South Africa’s Vernon Philander came close to matching or breaking the record, but, he reached his fifty-wicket mark in his seventh Test.Â
The Rohit Sharma led Indian Men’s Cricket Team triumphed over Sri Lanka in Mohali in first Test match and is looking forward to wrap up the series in their favour in upcoming day-night match in Bengaluru. Virat Kohli reached the 8000 runs mark in the 100th Test match of his career.Â
