Sergey Lavrov, along with the Russian Foreign Ministry delegation, reached the New Delhi airport yesterday. His arrival was confirmed through Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi’s, tweet.
Maria Zakharova, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, has confirmed that Lavrov will meet with the Indian Foreign Minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, today.
Later, he will also pay a visit to Prime Minister Modi during his formal visit. However, the Indian media news advisory did not mention any meeting between the Russian Foreign Minister and PM Modi.

During the visit, India also intends to push the talks regarding the timely delivery of various military hardware. Further, delivery of the components of the S-400 missile system from Russia is also expected to be discussed.
On the other hand, Lavrov may brief India on the continuing Ukraine-Russia conflict and peace negotiations with the opposing party.
The Russian foreign minister landed in India after a 2-day visit to China. Lavrov met with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, on Wednesday.
Officially, the meeting recorded discussions over the Afghanistan crisis. But, it’s hard to believe that both sides haven’t talked about what’s going on in the Ukraine war. Especially when Russia is hard hit by western sanctions.
India’s stand on Russia-Ukraine war
Several leading powers in the world have criticised Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. However, India has not criticised Russia on a global scale.
Additionally, India has abstained from voting in the United Nations Security Council condemning Russia’s invasion. India is holding a neutral stand on the Russia-Ukraine war.
At the same time, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the Foreign Secretary of India, is in talks with the US Deputy National Security Advisor. Further, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar visited British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss to discuss the sanctions imposed on Russia on Thursday.
