Statements by External Affairs Minister focused on dialogue and diplomacy to aid the ongoing crisis.
India’s External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar gave his official statement on Wednesday regarding the ongoing Russia Ukraine war. He replied to questions raised in the parliament. Jaishankar replied to Lok Sabha clearing India’s stance on the ongoing crisis.
He answered several other claims and statements raised during the conflict on Tuesday. Jaishankar claimed that India was “Strongly against” the ongoing conflict. “We are strongly against the conflict, we believe that no solution can be arrived at by shedding blood and at the cost of innocent lives.”, said the External Affairs minister.
He stated that there was nothing that cannot be solved via dialogue and diplomacy. He took a stance against the consequential violence from the war. India, according to Jaishankar, stood firmly in support of ending the violence immediately. He gave his comments on the killings in Bucha. He said that he was deeply disturbed by the occurrence, according to official reports.
The minister and the country of India claimed that they strongly condemn the casualties that took place. They called for a thorough investigation into the killings and stated that it was an extremely serious matter. Furthermore, Jaishankar also said that India only chooses the side of “peace”. He claimed that peace has been the guiding notion in deciding their stance.
The reports also stated that he stressed the need to adhere to international law and to respect the territorial sovereignty of the states. The world was built on the principles of the UN charter, he said. In addition to this, he also discussed the situation of the Indian students in and from Ukraine. He claimed that India was constantly in touch with authorities in Ukraine and the universities.
He further added that talks were in motion with Poland, Hungary and Romania. The purpose was to discuss the student’s completion of education that was affected by the war. The Government was also criticized by the opposition. Post this, they decided to send Union Minister to act as a catalyst in the evacuation process.
Jaishankar claimed that the presence of the ministers aided the situation to the great extent. He also mentioned that it was imperative to reduce the independence of foreign countries and focused on the importance of being “Atmanirbhar”.
