A 14-year-old minor girl was gang-raped by a TMC leader’s son, who is 20 years old. The girl died after attending a birthday party in the Nadia district of West Bengal. Her body was cremated without a postmortem. She died on Sunday. Five days later, the complaint was filed, and two people have been arrested in this case so far.Previously, TMC leader Goala’s son, Braj Gopal Goala, a twenty-one-year-old son, was arrested; now, Prabhakar Poddar, the second accused, has been arrested based on TMC leader Goala’s son’s statement.
The political intervention
The case took a turn after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee questioned the incident. She said that the girl has a love affair, and we are in a state where we don’t attack someone who is in love. She said, “Was it rape?” Or did she get pregnant after an affair? She raised questions about her family also for not filing the FIR on time. If the girl was gang-raped on the 5th, then why did they register the case on the 10th? There was a grievance, so why did they not go to the police before? Now that they have cremated the body, how will they collect the evidence?
She claimed that her family and neighbours also knew about her love affair. She said if a boy and a girl are in love, it is not my job to stop them. This is not Uttar Pradesh. And it will go on about loving Jihad. It is a freedom in our state to fall in love and express it. She added further that if there is a crime, then action will be taken.
Mamata Banerjee said that she is not looking at any colour of politics. Police have been arrested and are investigating the case. She said it hadn’t happened in MP, and hadn’t happened in UP, Rajasthan, or Delhi. This is Bengal. This happens here, and you are talking about Trinamool, and the whole Bengal is Trinamool. Why did they drag Trinamool into it?
She said that there are 12 crore people here and Ramnavami was seen all over India. Lots of things happened, but nothing happened here. Many festivals take place here, but the media is only showing that one girl got gang-raped because we don’t like it. Why don’t you ask if she was raped? Was she pregnant? Or in a love affair?
Opposition Party’s Claim
The BJP leader of the opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, took this opportunity to attack CM Mamata Banerjee. He said that the chief minister should re-evaluate her decision and should have control of her language. She should rinse her mouth with phenyl and bleaching powder. He added that if the family is asking for a CBI inquiry, which they should have, we will give them all the possible support.
