A survey conducted by the police department of Mumbai found that the mosques have turned down the volume of the Azaan in the morning. Meanwhile, the controversy is going on, between the religious people and the loudspeaker. There were also reports that some mosques had stopped using loudspeakers. “Mosques have taken action on their own,” said a higher official in the police department.
MNS-Controversy
On the other hand, the chief of the party, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), Raj Thackeray, said in his Guda Padwa speech that if the loudspeakers installed in mosques are not removed, his party workers would play Hanuman Chalisa in front of the mosques. This created a high religious-political issue in Mumbai. He also added that the loudspeakers should be removed before May 3rd. In response to Raj Thackeray’s announcement, the Police Commissioner, Deepak Pandey, passed an order that no Bhajans or any other form of religious songs should be played within a 100-meter radius of the mosque’s location. Otherwise, it will lead to a violent and chaotic situation across Mumbai.
Police Department’s Intervention
The Police Commissioner of Nashik, made an announcement on April 18, that permission should be asked to use a loudspeaker, in every religious place, before May 3, 2022. The Police Department also said that everyone should follow the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court of India, regarding the usage of loudspeakers in early mornings and noise pollution. Severe action will be taken by the police department against those who violate the law.
