In response to the heatwave affecting numerous Bengal districts, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared the start of summer vacation in schools and institutions on May 2, according to a statement released Wednesday. In order for private schools to be able to take a similar option, Banerjee urged government authorities to inform them of the decision.
At a meeting to review the heatwave situation in the state, the chief minister said, “We are aware that the temperature is quite high in several regions, and children are suffering.” As a result, we have chosen to begin our summer vacation on May 2nd. ” She, on the other hand, believes that the length of the vacation should be determined by the department of education.
According to the government’s advisory, schools are encouraged to transfer primary school hours from the day to the morning, and if this is not possible, to make necessary provisions to ensure that children do not become ill as a result of the sweltering heat. Following three days of temperatures reaching or exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in the city, the administration has requested schools work with local health experts to ensure everyone is protected from the heat.
The start of the board test season came amid forecasts of a heat wave on Monday morning. In contrast to their English papers, the scorching heat seemed to be more of a source of stress for ICSE applicants in semester II. The ISC exams for Class XII will begin with English papers on Tuesday, while the CBSE boards will have minor papers. Council of Higher Secondary Education has also asked its schools to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply, adequate availability of ORS, and medical attention to take care of Class XII board candidates in case they fall sick during the heat wave-like conditions that prevailed during their final exams on April 26 and 27, according to a statement from the council.
Manish Jain, Secretary of the School Education Department, stated that “it is recommended that summer vacation be declared with effect from May 2, 2022, through June 15, 2022.” Exceptions to this rule include schools in the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, where the current academic timetable may be maintained till further notice.
