On the loudspeaker row, Thackeray has given an Ultimatum.
The law-and-order situation was reviewed by the Maharashtra Deputy General of Police (DGP) along with senior officials. The review was done after DGP Rajnish Seth meeting the Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil. This comes before the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray’s deadline of the ultimatum.
The Maharashtra police force is ‘alert and ready’ to handle any law-and-order situation. The entire police force is in action. Thackeray’s speech, in which he had sent warnings to remove loudspeakers atop mosques. The Police have mentioned that the speech given by the MNS chief is being “looked into” and also “legal actions will be taken if needed.” The deadline was set for May 3, warning the Muslim community of the loudspeaker removal as it created a nuisance among the public.
Mr. Seth, while addressing the press made it clear that strict actions will be taken against anybody who disturbs the law and order. He continued that the police leave for the upcoming days will be canceled. A total of 87 companies from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and around 30,000 home guards are deployed in the state.
DGP appealed to everyone to maintain peace in the state. And warned the citizens that no one should take the law into their hands. Only the police are solely responsible for maintaining law and order.
At a public rally in Aurangabad, MNS Chief, Raj Thackeray said that he will not be responsible for what will happen if his set deadline on May 3 is not met. The deadline to remove loudspeakers.
In the ultimatum, he has said that if the loudspeakers are not removed, then the MNS chief and all the Hindus would play Hanuman Chalisa at a double volume on the same loudspeakers atop mosques. He threatened that if the Muslim community did not take this issue seriously and if they do not understand it when said nicely then the party and Hindus will show them the power of Maharashtra.
Thackeray continued that loudspeaker noise is not a religious issue but it is a social one. All the set loudspeakers are illegal. He questioned that, do mosques have concert shows so that so many loudspeakers are set and used.
MNS Chief attacked the Shiv Sena government ruled by Raj Thackeray’s estranged cousin Uddhav Thackeray. Examples of Uttar Pradesh were given. The UP government is successful enough in removing loudspeakers atop mosques in the state. When UP can do it why cannot the Maharashtra government follow the same path? One state in the country has done it then why not one more implement it?
Seth informed the reporters that the Aurangabad Commissioner of Police (CP) is looking into the speech. These steps were taken after a speech given by Raj Thackeray on ‘silencing’ the loudspeakers from mosques from May 4.
A meeting between DGP Seth, Home Minister Patel, and other senior officials from the Maharashtra Police department met and reviewed the law-and-order situation as well as the MNS chief’s speech.
Raj Thackery sent an ultimatum that said, 3 May, 2022 would be the day of decision and results.
