Amid warning about loudspeakers removal, the magistrate has slapped a non-bailable warrant against MNS Chief Raj Thackeray and asked Mumbai police to arrest and present him before the court.
The magistrate court in Maharashtra’s Sangli district has issued a non-bailable warrant against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray in connection with a case of 2008. The case is being raked up ahead of Raj Thackeray’s loudspeaker deadline to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The MNS chief had said he would post his plan of action on loudspeaker warning on his social media platforms.
In 2008, North Indian youths appearing for a railway recruitment examination were attacked by MNS activists in Kalyan and other places in Maharashtra. The activists said that the youths were gunning jobs reserved for local Maharashtrians. The court in Kalyan issued arrests against MNS Chief Raj Thackeray for provoking his party activists.
The party activists staged a protest in Shirala against the arrest of Raj Thackeray in an agitation compelling shopkeeper to shut down the shops and causing a riot across many parts of Maharashtra.
MNS Chief Thackeray and ten others were booked under IPC sections 143,109,117,7 in the Criminal Amendment and 135 of the Bombay Police Act by the Shirala Police station. The magistrate court in Sangli issued a non-bailable warrant against him on April 6, 2022, and had asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner carry out the arrest before June 8 and present Raj Thackeray before the court.
Earlier in the day, an MNS activist claimed that the government had made a rule to withdraw any political cases before 2012. The case is racked up in the eye of the storm over Raj Thackeray’s ultimatum to Maharashtra Government and his cousin, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, to remove loudspeakers across the state. MNS Chief has been saying that the issue raised by him is not a religious but a social concern.
While addressing a massive rally in Aurangabad on May 1, he said, “I won’t be responsible for what all happens after the May 3 deadline to remove loudspeakers from mosques.” Aurangabad Police have been studying the speech, and the police stated that they would act against any unrest caused due to anyone. His speech on May1, landed him another FIR against his name.
