“It’s not just mosques,” the MNS chief continued, “there are many temples where illegal loudspeakers are running.”
Raj Thackeray, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) head, stated on Wednesday that playing Hanuman Chalisa outside mosques would continue until the government acts and addresses the matter in compliance with the Supreme Court’s loudspeaker rules.
“Mumbai has about 1,140 mosques, as far as I am aware. One hundred and thirty-five mosques broke the rules by playing azaan at 5 a.m. We want the state to be at peace. I’d like to inquire why the cops are exclusively targeting our employees.
I argue that all unlawful loudspeakers should be removed from mosques, and we will continue to agitate until they are, “Raj Thackeray stated during a news conference today.
The MNS head went on to say: “Illegal loudspeakers are not just found in mosques; they may also be found in temples.
I’ve already stated that illegal loudspeakers are a societal issue rather than a religious one.” According to the Maharashtra Home Department, there are 1,140 mosques in Maharashtra, 135 of which defied Supreme Court directives and utilised loudspeakers before 6 a.m. today.
“I’ll have to watch what the Supreme Court does if the administration doesn’t obey the court’s ruling,” he added.
MNS leaders, according to Thackeray, would continue to play Hanuman Chalisa outside mosques during Azaan till all unlawful loudspeakers are removed.
Why are loudspeakers a problem?
“Illegal loudspeakers are not just found in mosques; they can also be found in temples. I’ve already stated that they (illegal loudspeakers) are a societal issue more than a religious one. “Thackeray went on to say more.
Outside the MNS chief’s house, security has been beefed up. Since early this morning, police have detained between 250 and 260 MNS activists across the state.
On April 12, the MNS chairman issued the Maharashtra government an ultimatum to remove loudspeakers from mosques by May 3, failing which, he said, MNS activists would play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers.
In the video, Bal Thackeray is heard saying, “The day my administration comes to power, namaz prayer would be discontinued because religion should not be such that it hinders national growth.”
“Tell me if our Hindu faith is causing a problem, and I’ll take care of it… Masjids will be devoid of loudspeakers. “The Sena four, who died in November 2012, declared this.
The Shiv Sena, which is part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi administration, comprises Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has responded by declaring that no one should preach Hindutva to the MNS.
On Tuesday, Raj Thackeray was charged with inciting people to play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers in regions where loudspeakers are utilised for ‘Azaan’.
