Of late Manchester City has been suffering from the lack of an effective goal scorer. Till last summer, the Argentinean Sergio Agüero served as Man City’s striker before he parted ways to join Barcelona. Ever since then, Pep Guardiola has been searching for an effective successor to Agüero. He tried to bring Harry Kane, yet Tottenham Hotspurs bought Kane for £ 150 million. Guardiola’s desire to have Jack Grealish for £100 million also put brake to the deal. This season he intends to have the Norwegian play for the club.
A few hours ago, the football journalist Fabrizio Romano announced the transfer on his Facebook page. He further shared in a YouTube video that Borussia Dortmund, where Haaland currently plays, has signed a release clause lower than €75 million. From that sum, Dortmund would sign Karim Adeyemi from Red Bull Salzburg, Nico Schlotterbeck from Freiburg F.C and Niklas Süle from Bayern.
Guardiola is not allowed to Reveal Details
Pep Guardiola has reportedly said: “Everybody knows the situation. Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City have told me that I am not allowed to say something until it is done. I am sorry but I am not allowed to talk. I’d love to talk about Haaland, but the two clubs tell me don’t say anything until the legal actions are completed”.
It is being said that Pep Guardiola has been a big reason why Haaland could have joined Man City. Guardiola was prompt and his relationship with the board of directors played a big role in smoothening the transfer process. Clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern had eyed Haaland, yet the Norwegian eventually chose Man City. Haaland was not the only player City had eyed though, Paul Pogba of Manchester United had been approached too, but both Guardiola and his director Txiki Begisristain believe Pogba intends to join another club passes.
Man City Football Tactics till Now
On the other hand, Haaland is going to sign a five-year contract with Man City. According to Romano, his salary is going to be similar to that of Kevin De Bruyne, i.e., £350,000 per week. However,according to Goal, Haaland earns around £132,000 per week currently. The Daily Mail says he could make as much as £6.8 million per year.

So far Manchester City has played the current season with a “false No 9.” This usually involves Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden, or Bernardo Silva with Gabriel Jesus occasionally. The position is not easy. Most of the time someone playing in this position may not even get a pass. It requires a lot of patience and Gabriel Jesus often finds himself frustrated with the position. On the other hand, both Foden and Sterling prefer playing out wide.
It seems like Erling Haaland has the patience and the resilience for it. Indeed, his average is 35.6 touches per 90 minutes in the Champions League. The position will not frustate Haaland. Instead, he’s young enough to adapt and assimilate to this position.
Haaland’s statistics show him to be one of the best strikers in world football. He has so far scored 61 goals in 66 Bundesliga games for Dortmund and 85 goals for 88 games across all leagues. This season he has won 28 goals in 29 games across all competitions with 23 assists. There are concerns that his physical frame, 6ft 4inch could cause injuries. He has also missed 26 games for Dortmund between November 2020 and January 2022. Nevertheless, he has 181 senior games and Man City is confident of his success.
