After a year of sub-par and average commercial releases, trailer of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram drops to rave reviews from fans and critics alike!
Chennai: A power-packed trailer, intense dialogue, and a menacing score. From the looks of it, Vikram has all the marks of a classy action-thriller. The title is inspired by Kamal Hasan’s Vikram(1986), but the plots are reportedly unrelated. The star-studded cast include Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Fasil and Arjun Das. Later reports suggest that Jai Bhim frontman Suriya could appear in a cameo towards the end of the film.The film is set to hit theatres on the 3rd of June.
Guns, Gangsters and Action!
Starting off slow, the trailer subsequently turns into a fiery montage of intense action cuts. The film promises a full-blooded commercial experience with a plot that satisfies the film buff too. True to director Lokesh’s style, the film looks like a gritty tale of what could be a standoff of epic proportions.
Vikram, however follows a string of sub-par commercial releases from other Tamil stars. Annathe, Beast and Valimai opened to mixed reviews to both audiences and critics. The film unites some of South India’s most critically acclaimed actors.
Vijay Sethupathi returns to the gangster shoes previously playing a ruthless local mobster in Vikram Vedha(2017). The trailer shows him sporting a permanent scowl and wielding a cleaver in a fight scene. Some shots in the trailer suggest he plays a leader of an uprising of some sorts.
Fahadh Fasil returns to Tamil cinema in an action-hero avatar. The trailer shows the actor swinging off a ledge multiple floors above the ground as well as in a high-octane chase scene. With this, he equals his wife Nazriya Nazim in the number of Tamil film appearances, both now standing at 4 each. Fahad Fasil also starred in the critically acclaimed Super Deluxe alongside Vijay Sethupathi in 2019.
Cameo for Suriya in Vikram?
Speculations of a cameo from Actor and activist Suriya were confirmed by Dir. Lokesh on Sunday’s audio launch event.
Apart from that, a video surfaced on the 12th of May allegedly showing Suriya on the sets of Vikram with Kamal Hasan.
Other cast members include Narain, Arjun Das, Shivani Narayan and Ramesh Tilak.
In short, Vikram will aim to break the streak dry run of quality commercial viewing experiences in Kollywood.
Anirudh strikes again!
Anirudh “Rockstar” Ravichander continues his spree of superhit commercial albums with VIkram. The first title teaser featured a remixed version of the title track from Vikram (1985) which captured audiences.
Vikram’s audio launch revealed 5 songs, with one(Pathala Pathala) written and performed by Kamal Hasan. Notably, this album falls shy of just 16 minutes long.
In addition to this album, the music director has recently had a dream run with super hit commercial albums. Albums of Master, Doctor, Beast, Kaathuvakla Rendu Kaadhal and Don continue to rule airwaves
Lokesh to replicate Master’s Success?
Director Lokesh has delivered commercial superhits with Kaithi(2019) and Master(2021) recently.The young director stated that some of Kamal’s earlier work inspired him to don the director’s hat and that this would be his dream collaboration.
The film began pre-production in early 2020 but found itself significantly dampened by the COVID-19 Pandemic and State elections.
Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Films and Hasan’s RKFI productions picked up production rights for the venture. Sony Music South picked up music rights soon after. The film is also expected to be available on Disney+ Hoststar as well as televised on the Star Network.
