Ganga Arti is performed daily in the evening by a group of priests at the Dashashwamedh ghat. Through the arti Agni Pooja is performed in which a commitment is made to the Lord Shiva, Mata Ganga, Surya as well as the whole universe. It is performed by brass lamps and is accompanied by sacred chants.Ganga is the holiest river in Hindu mythology. It is believed that a dip in Ganga cleanses all sins.
At Dashashwamedh ghat, one moment there is hustle bustle about finding the perfect place to watch the arti, and the next minute everything is silent when the conch is blown. A statue of Goddess Ganga is placed in the centre at one of the many raised platforms. With the sound of bells and chants and lighting of incense sticks and diyas, the Aarti is carried on.
The priests worship the river Ganga in such a synchronized manner that it makes for a spell binding sight. For years this arti is taking place, the undying devotion of the priests make it perfect. Although it seems risky, the lamps are in safe hands. This goes on for 45 minutes and it is a beautiful
Sight.
Conclusion:
Out of all the spiritual places in Varanasi, one must visit Dashashwamedh Ghat For Ganga Arti and Assi ghat for Subah e banaras. Akshay Kumar’s visit to promote his film will make Varanasi even more popular.
