Yashwant Sinha has been chosen as the opposition candidate in the upcoming Presidential election. Yashwant Sinha joined the Trinamool Congress party last year in 2021.

Yashwant Sinha had dropped a hint when he said he “must step aside” to work for greater opposition unity. Yashwant Sinha had been the former finance minister under the NDA government. But last year he joined the Trinamool Congress Party to work along with Mamata Banerjee. Yashwant Sinha is the joint opposition candidate for presidential polls and Draupadi Murmu has been selected as the candidate from BJP.

“I am grateful to Mamataji for the honor and prestige she bestowed on me in the TMC. Now a time has come when for a larger national cause I must step aside from the party to work for greater opposition unity. I am sure she approves of the step,” he tweeted.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted “I would like to congratulate Shri Yashwant Sinha on becoming the consensus candidate, supported by all progressive opposition parties, for the upcoming Presidential Election. A man of great honor and acumen, who would surely uphold the values that represent our great nation!”
Abhishek Banerjee the Trinamool Congress national secretary also congratulated him.
All about Yashwant Singh
Yashwant Sinha was a former Union minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee cabinet. He was born on November 6, 1937. Mr. Sinha attended school and university in Patna. In 1958, he completed his Master’s in Political Science from Patna University and taught Political Science. In 1960, he joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and held several posts during his 24-year tenure. Later he resigned from this service and joined politics. Mr. Sinha announced his retirement from active politics in 2018. But in 2021, just before the West Bengal state Assembly elections, he joined the Trinamool Congress party and became its vice-president.
