Shubman Gill, who was included in the Indian team, said that nothing could be better than making his international debut in New Zealand as he was adjudged the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the Under-19 World Cup. The Mohali-based cricketer got a chance to join the Indian team just like his Under-19 captain Prithvi Shaw, albeit in a shorter format.
But the player had a dream 2018 in which he got a lucrative IPL contract thanks to his impressive performance in the World Cup. Subhuman Gill scored 790 runs in 10 innings at an average of 98.75 for Punjab in the recent Ranji Trophy campaign. Subhuman Gill was also part of coach Rahul Dravid’s Indian ‘A’ team which toured New Zealand last month.
Subhuman Gill, who got the news of joining the Indian team in 2019, said, ‘It is good for me to be selected for the tour of New Zealand, I played there in the Under-19 World Cup and now I have this opportunity again. ‘He said, ‘I have done well there, I can say that there would not have been that much adjustment in technique there. If I get a chance, I just have to deal with the pressure that comes from playing for India.
