In the Norwegian capital Oslo, a suspected ‘terrorist attack’ happened on Saturday outside an LGBTQ pub. A gunman opened fire at three locations in downtown Oslo at 1 am local time and killed two people and 21 others wounded.
Police Spokesperson Tore Barstad said 14 people are receiving medical treatment, and eight victims have been hospitalized.
Police said that the arrested man has been identified as a Norwegian citizen of Iranian origin and they have seized two firearms a handgun and an automatic weapon in connection with the Oslo shooting.
Police attorney, Christian Halto said the accused was under custody on the charge of murder, attempt to murder and act of terrorism, on the ground that people were targeted in multiple locations.
Police attorney Hatlo said that our all-around assessment is that there are reasons to believe that he wanted to cause terror in the population.
He also added that We require to move Terrorist through his medical record if he has any, It’s not something that we’re aware of now.
The Pride Month events were cancelled on the advice of the authority which was planned outside the pub on Saturday. “Oslo Pride therefore urges everyone who planned to participate or watch the parade to not show up. All events in connection with Oslo Prides are cancelled,” organizers said on the official Facebook page of the event.
A journalist from Norwegian Public Broadcaster (NRK), Olav Roenneberg, a witnessed the attack told NRK that I saw a man arrive at the scene with a bag. He picked up a weapon and began shooting, he added that First I believed it was an air gun. Thus the glass of the bar next door was broken and I understood I had to run for cover.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere wrote on the attack in his Facebook post that “the shooting outside London Pub in Oslo tonight was a cruel and deeply shocking attack on innocent people.”
He said that while the intention is uncertain, the shooting has caused fear and grief in the LGBTQ community, “We all stand by you,” Gahr Stoere wrote.
