The conflict stricken countries Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, Israel, state of Palestine and Syria are the hot-spots. These countries report more than 82% of cases ever. There are more than 71 grave violations reports daily.Â
Ms Tasha Gill, UNICEF’s senior advisor on child protection in emergencies said in a press briefing that their analysis shows that even after decades of advocating with the parties and those who influence them and also monitoring and reporting as well as documenting right violation, children continue to suffer the brunt of the war.
UNICEF’s report of grave violations
The report says that more than 104,000 kids were dead, enroll more than 90,000 children to conflict as well as abduct at least 25,700 children to conflict.
They further adds to understand the magnitude of the issue- from 2010 to 2020, there was an increase of more than 180% of grave child rights violations that happens on kids from conflicted situations. Ms. Gill further says that it is important to note that a lot of children experience more than 1 violation which in turn makes them more vulnerable. Abductions often combines with other violations like recruitment or sexual violence.Â
UNICEF staff, other UN and partner organizations are taking efforts to collect and confirm the information of grave violations to understand and respond to the needs of these children. These efforts earns positive results.
Ms Gill said that they do believe that the international community as whole at large can do more things to protect children in the conflict.
Amidst all this devastating news, there is a positive note. More than 170,000 children were free from the arm forces. Many victims survive multiple grave violation which includes abduction and sexual abuse. Â
