According to Ukrainian sources, overnight Russian missile strikes on the southern Odesa region of Ukraine have killed at least 20, including one child.
According to the state emergency agency, DSNS, 16 persons were murdered when a nine-story building in the village of Serhiyivka was struck by one missile.
In a separate attack on a local vacation resort, four more people—including the child—were killed.
In recent days, Russia has launched a large number of missiles at Ukrainian cities.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, denied again on Friday that Russia was attacking civilian targets
The missiles struck Serhiyivka, according to the DSNS, at around 1:00 on Friday (22:00 GMT Thursday).
It made available video of firefighters scouring the nine-story building’s rubble for survivors.
Additionally, they were spotted with what appeared to be a victim’s body in a bag.
According to the DSNS, the Russian strikes injured 38 individuals, including six children.
DSNS spokeswoman Maryna Martynenko told Ukrainian TV that the building’s exterior wall was harmed and an adjacent store was set on fire as a result of the incident
She reported that 60 rescuers were at the scene right now Few individuals were at the centre, according to Ms. Bondar, as most visitors did not remain overnight.
Russian aeroplanes, according to Ukrainian officials, shot three missiles over the Black Sea.
It is estimated that the building once housed 150 people.
Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the deputy director of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration, identified the deceased youngster at the resort as a 12-year-old boy.
Three individuals, including two toddlers, were also said to be still there beneath the debris.
A 60-year-old woman named Yulia Bondar was lodging there.
Soviet-era X-22 missiles are thought to have been employed, according to Serhiy Bratchuk, a spokesman for the Odesa regional administration.
The chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Andriy Yermak, referred to Russia as a “nation that sponsors terrorism.”
“They [the Russians] are waging a war on civilians,” he claimed, referring to their military losses.
Early in the conflict, the island gained prominence as a representation of Ukrainian defiance.
The island’s defenders are reported to have responded, “Go fuck yourselves,” when a Russian vessel demanded their surrender.
Zelensky claimed that although the withdrawal did not ensure the security of the Black Sea region, Russian actions there would be “seriously limited.” In his nightly address, he declared, “Step by step, we will push [Russia] out of our sea, our land, and our sky.”
A packed retail centre in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk was struck by two Russian X-22 cruise missiles earlier this week, killing at least 18 people and injuring dozens more.
Odesa, Ukraine’s largest Black Sea port, and the surrounding area had thought that the Russian evacuation from the strategically significant Snake Island on Thursday would lessen the threat.
Russia claimed that the removal of its garrison was a “gesture of goodwill” intended to demonstrate that it was not impeding grain exports from Odesa and other Ukrainian ports.
Ukraine, however, rejected this assertion and claimed that Moscow continued to shell its food stocks.
On Friday, two things happened separately:
According to the Ukrainian military, Russian forces are concentrating on encircling Ukrainian soldiers in Lysychansk, in the country’s east, in order “to achieve complete control over the Luhansk region.”
19 people have died and 62 have been injured as a result of Monday’s Russian missile attack on a crowded retail Centre in Kremenchuk, Ukraine, according to the DSNS.
Local officials reported that Russian forces shelled the Ukrainian districts of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Mykolaiv overnight.
A Ukrainian MP named Roman Hryshchuk tweeted a video that appeared to be from the attack and said, “Just imagine: you wake up and realis there is no way out. Russian missiles struck an Odesa residential high-rise, trapping people within their own rooms.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermic, declared: “A terrorist nation is killing our people. They engage in combat with civilians after suffering defeats on the battlefield.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesperson, underlined Russia’s assertion that the strike was not intended to target residential areas.
Moscow has so far denied responsibility for the attack. He asserted that “the Russian military is attempting to hit ammunition stores, weapon maintenance plants, and soldier training sites.”
A strategically significant Black Sea island off the southern coast close to Odesa was forced out of Russian control by Ukrainian soldiers on Thursday.
Ivan Bakanov, the chief of Ukraine’s security service, the SBU, described the attack on Friday as “the occupiers cannot prevail on the battlefield so they turn to the disgusting murdering of civilians.” The enemy made the choice to retaliate by cynically shelling civilian sites after being driven from Snake Island.
