The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) announced that it will support Droupadi Murmu, the NDA’s candidate for the upcoming Presidential polls. The former Chief Minister and TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu said his party will support Murmu as the “first woman tribal President ” he further said it would be very nice to see Murmu as the President of the nation.
The TDP has the strength of 3 in the Lok Sabha and 23 MLAs in the Andhra Assembly, earlier the ruling YSR Congress declared support for Droupadi Murmu with the TDP declaring support for the NDA-backed candidate the two key parties in the state are with Murmu. The BJP doesn’t have a single MP or MLA in the state, still, Murmu will get a good amount of votes from Andhra Pradesh.
Naidu had parted ways with the BJP before the 2019 general elections, over the issue of not fulfilling promises made during the division of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. “ We have decided to back her as she is the first Adivasi woman to be nominated. There is no other consideration”, said TDP MP Y Ramakrishnudu.
The ruling YSR Congress Party has already declared its support for the NDA candidate. YSR Congress MP Mithun Reddy had accompanied Murmu to file the nomination papers. The YSR Congress has 22 MPs and 151 MLAs, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s support for Murmu was expected as Reddy maintains a warm relationship with Prime Minister Modi, and Reddy is said to be hoping his support to the NDA candidate will be helpful for the state in the long run.
President Election 2022
India will elect a new President on July 18. The key fight in this Presidential election will be between NDA-backed candidate Droupadi Murmu and UPA candidate Yashwant Sinha. The members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and all members of the state Assembly will vote in the election. The NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu is slightly ahead because the BJP has a large number of MPs in parliament and there are a good number of states ruled by the BJP and its allies. Murmu being a tribal face also received support from UPA partners like Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and anti-BJP parties like TDP.
There is hardly any doubt that Murmu will be elected as the next President of India. With this India will get the 1st ever tribal women President in the form of Droupadi Murmu.
