The Canadian pop sensation and Grammy-nominated singer Shawn Mendes has postponed three weeks of shows in order to take some time off from the Wonder World Tour to tend to his mental health.
Â
“Unfortunately I’m going to have to postpone the following three weeks of gigs through Uncasville, CT till further notice,” Shawn Mendes said, adding that he is devastated to have to cancel the global tour. In a message on Instagram, the singer said. “I need to take some time to recover and look after my mental health first and foremost. I’ll let you know as soon as there are any other developments, I swear. I adore you guys.
Â
Both the Spectrum Center and PNC Arena updated their websites on Sunday to announce the postponed events. The fans are being advised to keep their purchased tickets for a future revised tour date. However, refunds were being issued.
Â
In a social media post, Shawn Mendes said he has been on the road since he was 15 years old. When he travels, the musician finds it tough to be away from his friends and family. But Mendes remarked, “It was a premature decision and sadly, the toll of the road and the pressure has caught up to me and I’ve hit a breaking point.”
Â
Before arriving at the particular decision, Mendes took the advice and help from his mental health professionals as well as his team.
Â
On Twitter in April, he wrote that he often questions himself, “what it is that I should be doing with my life,” what he should be doing.
“I’m honestly so okay! “, he tweeted as a follow-up to reassure his fans.
Simply put, Mendes wants to have a clear line of communication with his fans. So he scribbled down a big old note for them to see.
