Bayern Munich confirmed the deal between them and Barcelona is happening.
Robert told his current team that he would like to leave, as his contract will expire in the summer of 2024. Robert was disappointed with the pay that had been provided by the German club, he even had some arguments with the coach of Bayern, Julian Nagelsman, regarding the tactical choices.Â
In a press conference, Lewandowski said “It is certain that my story with Bayern Munich is over and I cannot imagine further cooperation with the club. After what happened in the last few months, the transfer is the best option for both the parties.”
In making the initial announcement of the deal on Saturday, Bayern president Herbert Hainer remarked, “It’s excellent to have clarification for all parties. With Barcelona, we have reached a verbal understanding.” He also added “Robert is a fantastic player, and he helped us win everything. He has our sincere gratitude.”
Lewandowski was one of Barca’s top targets this summer because Xavi Hernandez wanted to strengthen his team’s offensive capabilities in time for the upcoming season.
The two-time Golden Boot winner is Barcelona’s sixth summer addition, following Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Pablo Torre, and Rafinha. The agreed-upon price for the Poland striker is €45 million, plus €5 million in possible add-ons.Â
Over the weekend, Lewandowski will be introduced as a new member of Barcelona, in fact, he might travel with Barca for their upcoming US trip, which kicks off the following week with a friendly matchup against Inter Miami FC.
As his career draws to a close, the striker has expressed a desire to take on a fresh challenge. In August, he turned 34.
Lewandowski, who has won the Best FIFA Men’s Player award the last two seasons, has 375 games and 344 goals in eight seasons with Bayern, he won the Bundesliga, the Champions League, the Club World Cup, and three German Cups during each of his eight seasons with the team.
Lewandowski left Borussia Dortmund for Bayern on a free transfer in 2014 after scoring 103 goals in 187 games. He had previously joined Borussia Dortmund from Lech Poznan in 2010.
