Candy-man, directed by Nia Dacosta, released on 27th August, is an addition to Candy-man, released in 1992.
The Candyman 2021 may not seem scary as the original to some viewers, but it expands the story so that the fans will enjoy it.
Candyman is a thriller, horror and suspense-driven movie, Starring Tony Todd as Candyman, Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Teyonah Parris.
A chance encounter with an old-timer exposes Anthony to the true story behind Candyman. The film goes like, in the present day, a decade after the last of the Cabrini towers were torn down, Anthony and his partner move into a loft in the now gentrified Cabrini.
Anxious to use these macabre details in his studio as fresh grist for paintings, he unknowingly opens the door to a complex past that unravels his sanity and unleashes a terrifying wave of violence.
It tells you a story about the housing projects of Chicago’s Cabrini-Green neighbourhood, which was terrorized by a word-of-mouth ghost story, a supernatural killer with a hook for a hand, going after and killing those who dare to take his name five times in front of the mirror.
The movie starts with a group of friends sitting and chilling, and one of them starts telling a story about a woman who was burned to death.
The story of the women creeps out everyone. The movie character’s visual representation of the story was superbly creative as the director showed it to us creatively using shadow puppetry.
The shadow puppetry is used to show the sophisticated reclamation of the Candyman legend and slickness, and it gives us that extra thrill.
Candyman is not just a horror movie without a base, but it is about racial overtones. If you have watched the original Candyman, you may have gotten confused, but the new Candyman is a more transparent and more cohesive film.
The movie does not just go around the main characters, adding extra thrill and excitement to it focuses on intricate details about every surface of the film.
The intricate details also include the bees, which seems creepy and it will surely give you chills.
The direction is good. A very well directed horror film is what we want, and this movie does justice to our eyes. The lighting and the shots, camera angles are good.
The movie’s start is a bit boring as we do not get what is happening because of the dark lighting. It might be to build a storyline to unfold everything.
But as the movie goes on, the picture gets clear, and everything starts to make sense.
Everything except the storyline and the base of the story and the Idea of the movie is excellent, but compared to other horror films that we have watched, it does not count as the best horror\thriller movie of this year.
If you have not watched the original Candyman movie, then you might feel bored, and it might not seem scary at all to you.
Still, if you are an original Candyman fan, it is an exceptionally good follow up movie.
You can say yeah, it is a good movie with also being a horror it gives you a social msg.
But how many percentages does it deserve in terms of entertainment? I think it is 50% entertaining and 50% boring. There is nothing special other than the storyline.
Overall, it is a good horror movie in terms of thrills and suspense. If you love thrills with a slight amount of horror, it is your go-to movie.
But if you like to watch horror movies with horror sequences that will scare you like hell, then it is not an excellent choice for you.
