Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios is on a roll at the moment. He defeated Alex de Minaur yesterday at the Canadian Open round of 16 by 6-2, 6-3. Wimbledon finalist has now won 15 of his last 16 matches, with the only loss coming to Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic.
Nick defeated world number one Daniil Medvedev in the round of 32 after playing some brilliant tennis. Kyrgios is having a wonderful year on the court this season. He won the doubles title with his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Australian Open and played his first Grand Slam at this year’s Wimbledon championships.
Kyrgios will play Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-final, another player who has had the privilege to defeat Nick this season. The victory against de Minaur ensured that Nick is going to be seeded for the upcoming US Open. He is currently ranked 27 in the ATP live rankings.

ATP did not reward any ranking points for Wimbledon this season, due to which Nick was unable to grab 1200 points for playing in the final. However the victory at Canadian Open will ensure that going forward in the season, he is going to be seeded at most of the events.
Reactions from Nick Kyrgios after his victory
“Incredibly tough after yesterday’s big high, playing Daniil, and the crowd was amazing. It was a day I’ll probably never ever forget,” Kyrgios said of his upset win.
“Today was really hard mentally for me to go out here and play Alex,” he continued. “We’re such good friends and he’s been having such a good career so far and carrying the Australian flag for so long. It was just tough mentally. It’s never easy to play a player like that, especially if they’re Australian.
“These days are starting to blend into one another,” he said. “I’m just kind of playing the game, physio, eat, sleep, play. It’s tiring, but that’s the sport. I am missing home a little bit, I’m not going to lie. I’ve got my mum and my dad, I haven’t seen [them] in about three months. So I’m missing home but at the same time I know that it’s only a couple of tournaments before I go [back].”
Nick Kyrgios on his ranking that will earn him a seed at the US Open – “It was a goal, more so so I didn’t get one of the big titans or gods [in the] first round,” he said. “I can actually work my way into the tournament. I always feel that my game is right there, no matter who I play. Today I felt amazing and hopefully I can keep it going.”
