The 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly saw a heroic retort against Pakistan as Sneha Dubey, an IFS officer from India, exercised the right to respond to Pakistan’s head of state, Imran Khan.
She dished out some memorable one-liners, which caused a surprising outburst of support across social media from the netizens after her fiery oratory.
India often gets seen ignoring Pakistan’s statements or false accusations that “tarnish the image” of India on the world stage.
She took to the world body accusing Pakistan of sheltering the mastermind behind the 9/11 attack, Osama bin Laden who had to be weeded out of Pakistan by the US special forces raid in 2011 in the army guarded city of Abbottabad.
This Friday, India’s First secretary Sneha Dubey claimed, “We exercise our Right of Reply to one more attempt by the leader of Pakistan” at the UN General Assembly.
She added, “to tarnish the image of this august Forum by bringing in matters internal to my country, and going so far as to spew falsehoods on the world stage,” accusing Imran Khan after the remarks he made earlier at the UNGA.
In his prerecorded address at the UNGA, Imran Khan had spoken about the decision of the Indian government on the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
Khan had said, “New Delhi has also embarked on what it ominously calls the `final solution’ for the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.”
As Khan spoke about the 2019 decision of India in his address to abolish Article 370, he didn’t fail to mention the death of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a pro-Pakistan separatist leader.
He delivered his speech in a video due to Covid precautions and said, “The worst and most pervasive form of Islamophobia now rules India.”
Currently First Secretary at the Mission, Dubey tore into Khan’s attempts to again bring up the issue of Kashmir on the UN stage.
The Indian diplomat’s background
Sneha Dubey is an IFS officer representing India on its permanent mission to the United Nations.
She has successfully won the hearts of Indians for her fiery and direct responses to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan after accusing Pak of “spewing falsehoods” against India on the world stage.
Dubey joined the India foreign services in December 2013, initially being posted in the Latin America and Caribbean division at the Ministry of External Affairs, taking up the position of undersecretary.
She joined as the Third Secretary about a year later at the Indian Embassy in Madrid. Further, she got sent to the prestigious Indian permanent mission to the United Nations.
Sneha is a 2012 batch IFS officer who completed her schooling in her native, Goa. She has received her higher education in Pune’s Fergusson College and completed her MPhil from the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in the capital.
She wanted to join the Indian Foreign Services ever since she was 12-years-old, and she passed the civil services examination in her first attempt in 2011.
Her inspiration to join the foreign services being a combination of factors, including her hunger for learning about international affairs, being part of important policy decisions, the thrill of discovering new cultures, representing her country and helping its people.
Her father works in a multinational company while her mother is a school teacher. She is the first in her family to join government services.
An Arsonist disguised as a Fire-Fighter
India denounced Pakistan as a patron of terrorism and a haven for terror strikers like Osama bin Laden, killed in a 2011 raid by the US special forces.
While “We keep hearing that Pakistan is a ‘victim of terrorism, said India in response to Pakistan PMs tirade in UNGA.
Dubey said Pakistan is “the country which is an arsonist disguising itself as a fire-fighter. Pakistan nurtures terrorists in their backyard in the hope that they will only harm their neighbours.
Our region, and the entire world, has suffered because of their policies.”
In a strong reiteration, first secretary Sneha Dubey said the entire world has suffered because of Pakistan’s policies as it nurtures terrorists in its backyard.
India also considers Pakistan a suppressor of minorities. As the young diplomat mentioned in her timed right of reply, “On the other hand, they are trying to cover up sectarian violence in their country as acts of terror.”
In a strong rebuttal, Sneha Dubey further dealt the ongoing issue of the Pakistani PM raking up the issue of Kashmir and India’s abrogation of Article 370; she emphatically further added that “The entire Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh “were, are and will always be an integral and inalienable part of India.
This includes the areas that are under the illegal occupation of Pakistan.
We call upon Pakistan to immediately vacate all areas under its illegal occupation.”
The young diplomat has won praise globally after she retorted to the Pakistani PM Imran Khan trying to play the victim card, vis-a-vis terrorism.
