Lawyers protested following a shootout at the Rohini Court in New Delhi, where gangster Jitender Gogi was produced. Was being paid, lawyers protested.
On Sunday, Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana visited the Rohini court, where top gangster Jitender Singh Mann, alias Gogi, was shot dead by two rival gang members before being shot dead by police.
According to sources, the Commissioner examined the crime scene, the courtroom where the shootout occurred.
On Friday, Gogi was shot dead in a courtroom by two gangsters from the rival ‘Tilu’ gang dressed in lawyers’ garb.
Asthana also examined the Court complex’s security arrangements. “He stayed at the court for at least an hour,” sources said, adding that he also spoke with his team and the lawyers present.
Gogi was on the most-wanted list of the Delhi Police, and he was also a suspect in dozens of other states, including murder, kidnapping, and fraud. His gang was also involved in illegal gun possession, carjacking, and land grabbing.
The two assailants were shot dead by three commandos from the 3rd Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police after the incident caused chaos and panic in the courtroom where the judge had begun proceedings.
According to sources, the Commissioner has recommended that the three commandos – two constables and an Assistant Sub-Inspector – be promoted out of turn.
The Delhi Police chief told IANS on Friday, hours after the incident that the force is determined to combat any organised criminal activity in the national capital.
Earlier in the day, a senior police official stated that the Delhi Police would meet with security agencies from neighbouring states and union territories to combat the rising threat of organised crime in the national capital.
