Martin Dúbravka is going to play a crucial role in United which desperately needed a new goalkeeper. The player is expected to start under manager Erk Ten Hag this season. Martin will compete with long-time United goalkeeper David de Gea for the spot. De Gea is been scrutinized for his lack of skills among other top goalkeepers.
Martin Dúbravka is the last signing for Manchester United this summer as the deadline day is approaching. The club has signed 5 players in this window which begins their rebuild.
Martin Dúbravka’s player profile
33-year-old Slovakia international has made 29 appearances for his country till now. Martin Dúbravka made 130 appearances for Newcastle conceding 175 goals. He kept 37 clean sheets during that period. He played 27 matches last season during which he conceded 36 goals and kept 8 clean sheets. He missed the majority of the season at the beginning of last year due to a foot injury.
Manchester United sent Dean Henderson on loan to Nottingham Forest this summer. Martin is expected to fill in his shoes and compete with David de Gea. There have been talks that David de Gea is not able to fit into Erik Ten Hag’s system. David has already conceded 7 goals this season. His lack of ability to perform in Ten Hag’s system was evident against Brentford.
With a long season ahead, it is only for the better that Martin will compete with de Gea and may even start under Erik Ten Hag. The 5m buy option is not mandatory as mentioned, thus if Martin wants to stay longer at Manchester United, he will have to perform exceptionally well.
Martin Dúbravka will join Antony and other new signings this week as Manchester United now turns its focus back on the turf.
