Metaverse can be defined as a virtual 3D world where we can live, work, travel and play. It is science fiction these days. Will the metaverse defiance Humanity? let’s look upon..
Metaverse a buzzword around.
It’s the new catchphrase in the tech world. Meta, we all know that Facebook and Microsoft are working on the term meta meaning after and beyond & the term universe means everything. It is giving virtual reality on the internet in trading, buying and selling, playing games, attending an event, going to some concert etc. By creating your own personalised Avatars, we can travel anywhere virtually.
It uses some well-defined algorithms.
With Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Nonfungible tokens (NFT) , 5G , Blockchains, Cryptocurrency and Virtual Reality (VR). Facebook is transforming itself into Metaverse as they are ready to create a virtual globe.
Not only Facebook but Microsoft, Nvidia, Coca-Cola and many more gaming companies. It’s not any two-year kind of project, the companies are still to mature their technologies. Earlier we used applications to connect to a person but now we can connect anywhere virtually. Axie Infinity, Decentraland, Sandbox, Illuvium, My Neighbour Alice, Krystopia, Alien Worlds etc are some of the games from meta world.
It is claimed that metaverse is the next phase of the internet. Companies like Meta are more inclined to make interaction more fun-loving and virtual. It will present business in a way it will make money and more money.
The economy would grow to $8-13 trillion by 2025. Unlike zoom, chat spaces don’t disappear when not used. It is still a fuzzy idea outside the tech industry. It parallels the idea with the real world. Metaverse was already here and can be imagined to the ones who belong to the gaming field playing in the virtual world or computers like GTA, Minecraft and other games.
The Internet is 2D but the metaverse is 3D. It will act as a dystopian world where real-life will vanish completely and people will start living in virtual reality.
But the question here arises that…..
Is metaverse going to be successful or do we need this?
- This is an interesting question as if we look up the Google Glass which came in 2013-14, we all know its outcome. Many tech influencers and celebrities wore it and had given their review but still at the end of the day it flopped.
- The main reason behind this flop idea was the real-use case. Whatever we can do on smartphones was only done by Google Glass. Similar is that in Metaverse. According to Zuckerberg, it will take around 5-10 years to completely establish this system. But is there any need for it? We can simply video call our friends if we want to communicate.
Why wear a big headset for that.?
- These headsets are very tough to handle. Just wearing it for 10 min can create stress on the brain. It sounds cool but realistically it was bothersome. Only the things which are simple to humans can become mainstream and successful. The eye-strain and headache are unacceptable.
Moreover, are we guys ready to spend all our lives on the fake artificial world? This might become a point of criticism that we really want to distance ourselves from real-life. It’s a very depressing thing to look upon. It’s been dangerous for humanity.
One major consent should be privacy.
- Staying 24*7 in the virtual world will create a lot of data. Everything can be traced. Everything uttered will be traced. Moreover, we will be having a completely new universe which will be owned by Mark Zuckerberg.
- One person can be our god who would be owing everyone’s life. Even if 60% of the population started living their life in metaverses still only one company can have all of people’s power. Is it worthy and good? It’s an unethical and dangerous thing, I guess.
Everything has pros and cons. We always have to look at both sides of coins. Metaverse will undoubtedly make it easier but do we need it? Answers are in our hands.
