A 60-year-old stacked
In a bizarre animal abuse case in South Korea, a 60-year-old man starved over 1,000 dogs to death. According to the reports, the man was located in Yangpyeong village in Gyeonggi Province, 60 kilometres east of Seoul.
According to the law of the land, the animal abuser is supposed to be penalised $23,100 (30 million won) and has to serve three years in prison.
Reportedly, it was a local who uncovered the heinous site of the stacked dog carcasses. They were casting rounds for their dog in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, the home of the 60-year-old man who housed the dogs before making them face the cruellest death.
According to the report, the canines were found after a resident reported their lost dog to the police.
The decomposing carcasses of the abused dogs formed a layer on the ground, which was then covered with other bodies to form a row.
Dogs that had been starved were housed in cages, bags, and rubber boxes.
Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth (CARE), a South Korean animal rights organization, released a video depicting the scene when rescuers arrived at the ordinary-looking residence.
The man admitted to his heinous deeds by saying that he would take the abandoned dogs home and starve them until they were dead.
Allegedly, the dog breeders were paying the man for weeding out the infertile, too old to reproduce, visually unappealing, and with a plunged market value dogs.
The spokesperson of CARE (Coexistence of Animal Rights on Earth), a South Korean animal rights organization, claimed that the breeders paid 10,000 won ($7.60) to the 60-year-old to “take care of the dogs”. However, allegedly, the man would imprison the dogs and starve them to death.
The spokesperson of CARE shared their observation of the hellhole, saying that the decayed carcasses of the dogs made a layer on the ground, which was again piled up with another layer of decayed carcasses.
The man has been involved in this misdeed since 2020 and has been earning a sum of 10,000 won for each dog in the name of “taking care of them”.
Reports claim that about four dogs were rescued from their ill fate and are now receiving clinical treatment for malnutrition and skin condition. Reports also claim that two out of the four dogs are dangling between life and death and are provided with intensive care.
A Korean video that was released concerning the bizarre case stated in its description that there were almost 300 to 400 remains visible.
The video maker further stated in the description that their heart was heavy, however, they were determined to bring out as many facts as possible, get a deeper insight into the situation and talk to the abuser.
The municipal authorities of Yangpyeong stated that carcasses will be removed this week.
Hailing to the reports, South Korea is a haven for over 6 million dogs and 2.6 million cats.
In the land of South Korea, pet parents are liable to face legal action if their duty as pet parents is not fulfilled. It also includes ignoring the animals’ feeding and drinking requirements. It is what the South Korean Animal Protection Act advocate.
According to the act, if the pet owner is found responsible for the death of their pet, they are liable of facing three years of imprisonment and/or, penalized up to 30 million won (approx. $23,000).
Despite such stringent laws advocating animal protection, the country is still faced with a steady rise in the case of animal cruelty.
Reportedly, animal abuse cases spiked from 69 to 914 throughout nine years, from 2010 to 2019.
There have been over 40,000 incidents of animals being abandoned, according to the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency of the agricultural ministry.
