History
SRH was inherited from Deccan Charges after Deccan Chronicle went bankrupt in the year 2012. The Sun Network-owned SRH announced their squad on December 18th, 2012, unveiled their jersey on March 8th, 2013 and revealed their logo on December 20th, the founding year.
The team was then led by Kris Srikanth, but at present, Muttiah Muralitharan, Tom Moody, and VVS Laxman lead the team. The Sun Group, one of the biggest television groups in India, being India’s largest media and entertainment company, having around 32 TV channels and 45 FM radio stations, won the bid in 2012 with Rs. 85.05 crores (USD 11 million) per year for a five-year deal.
During SRH’s inception, the team retained almost 20 players from the Deccan Charges, including Kumar Sangakkara, the captain.
Despite having a strong bowling squad, it wasn’t until David Warner was appointed captain in 2015 that the team started to shape its own identity.Warner backed his captaincy and guided the team to its first and only victory to date in 2016.
In the year 2020, Trevor Bayliss took the position of head coach and Brad Haddin as an assistant coach. While performing consistently throughout all the seasons, the orange army had a disastrous season in 2021.
The team now has Tom Moody as its head coach, Brian Lara as its batting coach and strategic advisor, and Dale Steyn as its fast-bowling coach.
Home Grounds
The team SRH has the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, the primary cricket stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, as its home ground. The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) owns the stadium. Located in the eastern suburb of Uppal, the stadium has a capacity of 55,000.
The Dr Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium at Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh was chosen as the secondary home ground for SRH in 2015. During that year’s season, the orange army played its first three home games there.
In 2017, SRH hosted the season’s opener and final, for which they opted for their primary home ground to host their home games. The BCCI decided to shift the IPL 2019 season final match from M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai to Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium and it was selected to host the final match of IPL 2019.
The award for best ground pitching for the same year’s IPL (2019) was won by the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
