Last weekend Lady Gaga was hit in the head by a thrown object while performing on stage and fans are furious. A viral video posted to Twitter by user “jomaticaaa” shows something rapidly approaching Lady Gaga and bouncing off her forehead as she sings “Hold My Hand.” The incident has reignited an ongoing debate over fan etiquette at concerts this summer.
Lady Gaga didn’t appear to be hurt when something hit her in the head on stage last weekend. It’s unclear when and where this video was taken, but BuzzFeed reports it was last weekend. Unconfirmed online fan mail suggests it was a show in Mexico and that it was a thriving tradition gone awry. Still, many commentators argued that throwing anything on stage was dangerous and off-putting to the performers.
An unidentified object hit the singer
It appeared that Gaga had been hit by some kind of stuffed animal, which would explain why she didn’t appear to have been hurt. Some commenters claimed it was a famous Dr. Simi doll widely used in Mexico to advertise a local pharmacy chain. They said that throwing these ubiquitous puppets on stage has become an unspoken concert tradition in Mexico in recent years to connect with artists. Many even appear to be writing encouraging messages on the dolls in Sharpie.
There were other incidents this summer that wasn’t as benign as this one. Just a few weeks ago, for example, Kid Cudi left the stage early when fans kept throwing things at him during his performance at the Rolling Loud music festival in Florida.

“Yo I’m leaving this stage if they throw another thing here I’m leaving I’m leaving right now,” the rapper said at the time. “Throw one more damn thing on that stage and I’m gone, I don’t fucking fuck up. I don’t fucking fuck up, you’re gonna ruin it for everyone. Don’t fuck with me.”
In Kid Cudi’s case, the objects thrown weren’t stuffed toys, but mostly trash and partially filled water bottles, which could have done him much more damage. The same seemed to be the case last month when Lady Gaga went viral for a similar story. Someone threw something on stage at another of their concerts, but it got blocked somehow. A video of the object crashing into an “invisible wall” baffled social media for days.
The incident that caught the attention
During her performance in Toronto this weekend, Gaga was singing “Hold My Hand” when she was hit in the head by an object thrown from the crowd. Jo Shelton, who attended the concert and recorded the incident on her cell phone, told Fox News Digital that a fan, probably in the pit, threw an object over the barrier between Gaga and the front of the crowd.
Shelton says that Gaga “was so passionate about this performance that nothing could stop her. She acted like a consummate professional.”
Gaga is no stranger to having things thrown at her. Just last month, another video from a concert showed the singer-actress protected by the same barrier as someone in the crowd threw something onto the stage.
The Chromatica Ball tour was originally scheduled for 2020, but Gaga postponed it due to the pandemic.
Shelton says of the incident, “It was an accident and I’m sure the fan feels awful. Just wanted to share this with other fans to discourage people from throwing things on stage because no matter how well you mean, you can never predict where something will end up when it’s thrown.

This isn’t the first time Lady Gaga has had things thrown at her. Just last month, a fan’s item missed the “Hold My Hand” singer due to a clear glass barrier.
According to Shelton, security guarding the stage at The Toronto Show couldn’t do anything about it. Fans later identified the object online as a stuffed animal. Gaga has not publicly mentioned being hit.
