Chasing 260 was not difficult but was not easy at all but India was able to chase the target and win the series-deciding match and claim the cup. India reached the target with five wickets and 47 balls left all credit goes to Rishabh Pant’s ton and Hardik Pandya’s heroics. India won the series by 2-1.
England went all out for 259, thanks to some amazing balling from Hardik Pandya ( 4/24) and Yuzvendra Chahal ( 3/60). The top order of the Indian team was destroyed by Reece Topley and the score was 72/4 when the keeper-batsman came to the crease to things in control. With the Dismissal of Virat Kohli at 17, the hopes of Indian fans were shattered, and the remaining batters had to bat sensibly and India found their spartans as Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya.
The Duo that Saved India
The two youngsters batted with experience and tackled experienced England’s bowling attack. They had a partnership of 133 for the fifth wicket when Hardik Pandya got caught at the mid-wicket, but Hardik had done his part and led India to a smooth road that would only end with their victory. Hardik scored 71 runs from 55 balls.
As Said by Hardik Pandya in an interview later on “ when Rishabh Pant bats, your heart rate increases but also gives that WOW feeling when he plays those unbelievable shots.”
India was also very lucky when Pant, at the start of his innings survived a stumping chance off Moeen Ali. But after that the duo was unstoppable and it was an innings worth watching for every Indian fan.
The chase did not begin well for the Indians, It is known to everybody that Indian batsmen have a weakness against left-arm pacers and the England Captain knew about it Jos Buttler employed one at each end. Virat Kohli for the first time looked good and just when things were about to seem good Virat Kohli got caught behind.
“ I was enjoying playing in England and at the same time, I enjoyed the atmosphere and the situation. The more you play the more experience you get …. It was a good wicket to bat on and the bowlers also did a commendable job to restrict them.” Pant said in an interview.
England’s efforts were not enough for India
England lost early wickets at the start of the match too and then they recovered to make a substantial total. England may have felt that they had enough runs on board to make india fight and win the match. But the home team was outshined by India and the efforts of Rishabh Pant.
