Rumours say that Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan might be following in the footsteps of his mother Jaya Bachchan in joining Politics.
Lately, a lot of rumours about actor Abhishek Bachchan joining politics have made headlines. And if the rumour is to be believed then the actor might be contesting in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Prayagraj which is also the birthplace of the actor’s father- Amitabh Bachchan.
It all began when some Samajwadi Party members organized a survey in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, to determine how popular Abhishek was there and whether or not he would be a good candidate to represent the city in the next Lok Sabha elections.

EARLY LIFE AND CAREER OF ABHISHEK
Abhishek Bachchan was born on February 5, 1976, to popular Bollywood actors -Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan. He’s the grandson of poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and social activist Teji Bachchan.
With the 2000 Bollywood film Refugee, in which he starred alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Abhishek made his Bollywood debut. The actor has since appeared in a number of films, including Guru, Happy New Year, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the Dhoom series, Bunty Aur Babli, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Raavan, Sarkar, and Dostana, among others. His last sighting was in Bholaa. The movie, which was released in March 2024, also featured Tabu and Ajay Devgn in pivotal parts.
He’s also the only actor after Dilip Kumar to win three consecutive Filmfares for his supporting role in Yuva, Sarkar and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. His first success as a male lead came in 2005 with Bunty aur Babli.
Abhishek, who is married to the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai, showcased his talents in the world of sports as a devoted football player. In addition, Bachchan is a co-owner of Chennaiyin FC in the Indian Super League and the Pro Kabaddi League franchise team Jaipur Pink Panthers.
THE BACHCHANS AND THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN POLITICS
Although everyone knows the Dhoom actor’s mother Jaya Bachchan as a member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha from the Samajwadi Party but did you know that Big B too had a knack for politics? He had contested in the 1984 elections from Congress Party and had defeated Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna of Lok Dal by winning 68 per cent votes.
Amitabh Bachchan was once asked if any family member would join politics wherein he stated that he couldn’t speak on behalf of any family member and about himself, he said that he’d retire permanently from politics. According to Big B, politics was a “cesspool”.
SAMAJWADI PARTY’S REACTION
A close source from the party confirmed that the rumours are unfortunately untrue. Moreover, he added that there’s a discussion going but they have no idea right now.
ABHISHEK BACHCHAN’S REACTION
The actor himself was amused at the rumours flocking in. A source confirmed that the actor has no intentions of joining politics and has never expressed any desire to engage in political pursuits. He’s passionate about acting and it’s highly unlikely that he’ll pursue something beyond it.
Moreover, the actor’s plate is full of future projects right now and he’s completely focused on it.
