On November 17, 2020, the Black Mamba single marked the formal debut of the new girl group that SM had been working on for a lengthy period of time. Aespa, the four-member rookie girl group of SM, possesses all of the necessary characteristics to become a top female idol group. The group has been demonstrating their abilities and asserting their status among 4th generation idols as well as in the larger Kpop community.
Although there have been some negative comments, Aespa is still doing well and had a good year in 2021, demonstrating its own distinctive and assertive personality amid major K-pop groups. Aespa got a great deal of attention before their debut due to the fact that they were formed by a Big 3 entertainment business and used a concept that was unparalleled in Kpop history—virtual members.
The concept of “actual members and virtual equivalents” promoted by Aespa is certain to attract the attention of the general public.
When it comes to creating worldviews for each group, SM always thinks beyond the box, as evidenced by such concepts as f(x)multi-style’s, EXO from another planet with superpowers, Red Velvet’s mystery and mystical charm, or NCT’s limitless notion, just to name a few examples. SM, on the other hand, considers Aespa’s concept of being “ahead of the curve” to be a dangerous option.
Several critics were outspoken about Next Level before it was able to take over the music charts, hitting the top of the Billboard Global 200 at number 97 and the top of Billboard Global at number 54. At first, K-netizens thought it was a horrible song since it had disconnected sections and was made up of distractingly loud noises. Savage, who has been described as “a musical product that sounds like it was assembled from ten distinct songs,” earned a slew of unfavourable comments before helping the all-kill group win rookie accolades at year-end awards shows.
Savage’s infectious and irresistible music, on the other hand, is steadily winning over the hearts of internet users. Aespa has demonstrated that the music of the ensemble has a special charm. Because songs like Next
Level and Savage have achieved high ranks on the domestic charts, this is clearly the case.
According to Melon, The Next Level was sixth on their list of songs with the best digital music scores in 2021. This shows how popular this “failed” song is. Even though there has been a lot of trouble, the four-woman group is widely thought to be one of the best new groups in recent memory, say experts in the field. This year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has confirmed that the group will perform on the main stage, making them the first K-pop girl group to be invited to perform on the main stage at the festival.
In addition to indie, rock, electronic dance music, hip hop, and other genres, the festival is held annually in California, the United States, and features a variety of artists from across the world. This year’s version began on April 15 and will run until April 24, with the final day on April 24.
Aespa has been hinting about a trip to Los Angeles on Instagram for the past week, with messages such as “How’s the weather in California?” and “What’s your California essential?” piquing the interest of followers. Messages were also dropped on the “Bubble” platform by members, with the first syllable of each message coming together to make the word “Coachella.”
It has finally been verified after all of the clues! Coachella will take place on April 23rd, and Aespa will be performing (local time). It has been confirmed that the female trio will play on the main stage of the festival, joining a lineup that includes artists like Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat, Conan Grey, Pink Sweat, and others. Additionally, other Korean artists, Epik High and CL (who were joined on stage by Bom, Dara, and Minzy), gave performances at Coachella this year.
Aespa joins BLACKPINK and 2NE1 as the third K-pop female group to perform at Coachella, following in the footsteps of BLACKPINK and 2NE1. In contrast to BLACKPINK’s performance on Coachella’s Sahara stage, 2NE1’s famous performance took place as a complete surprise, made possible by CL’s invitation to Bom, Dara, and Minzy to perform with her during her set.
As a result, Aespa becomes the first K-pop female group to be officially accepted to perform on the main stage of Coachella. Aespa will perform their big singles “Black Mamba,” “Next Level,” and “Savage” during their appearance at the festival.
Additionally, the girl group will play a new, previously unreleased track that was purportedly developed specifically for the day of the event.
