Several children were killed in two different attacks in Afghanistan on Friday, one in the city of Herat and the other in the southern Helmand province.
A bomb blast at a playing field in Afghanistan’s western province of Herat killed over 12 people and injured at least 25 on Friday.
According to TOLOnews, the death rate due to the explosion in Herat city’s PD 12 risen to 12, with 25 wounded, as per regional health officials. They said, the explosives were hidden in a sports field and inflamed while young people were playing.
Two bombs went off in quick succession in the western city of Herat, striking a group of children and young men who gathered on a field to play.
Another group of children were killed in the southern province of Helmand after the children came across a mortal shell in another mishap earlier on Friday.
According to a Taliban media officer, kids of three to twelve years of age, discovered the shell in the Marja area and were playing with it when it exploded.
Two other children were also hurt in the blast and are being treated at a local hospital.
According to Taliban-appointed provincial officials, five individuals were killed and at least 20 others were injured in the explosion.
Traditional Afghan activities such as mud wrestling and Buzkashi, a horse-mounted game, are played on the field.
According to Sabit Harwi statement, the Taliban-appointed spokesman for the intelligence office in Herat, the playing area was considered safe after it was recently demined to remove unexploded explosives.
While the explosion in Helmand appeared to be an accident, authorities in Herat claimed that bombs that exploded at a sports field had been planted recently.
Several attacks have been witnessed across Afghanistan since the Taliban took control in August of last year, including some claimed by the Islamic State (IS).
In January around 7 people killed and 9 more injured in a previous bomb blast in the city of Heart.
According to the reports of TOLOnews the bomb blast hit a minibus in PD12 of Heart province’s capital, and at least four women were killed.
