The demand of the hackers
Hackers have reportedly made a demand of Rs.200 Crores in cryptocurrency.
Data of around 3-4 crore patients could have been compromised, as a result of the breach that was detected Wednesday, morning.
As stated by the sources, “Hackers have allegedly demanded around Rs 200 crore in cryptocurrency”.
Management of AIIMS in absence of a server
It has to be noted that, with the servers being hacked, AIIMS, Delhi has to manually manage the patient care services in emergency, outpatient, inpatient, and laboratory wings.
According to the officials at the AIIMS, Delhi, “The full sanitization of the network is likely to continue for five more days. Thereafter, e-hospital services can be rolled out in a phased manner.”
Patient care services including emergency, outpatient, inpatient, laboratory, etc services are being continued in manual mode, they added.
The AIIMS server also stores data of several VIPs, that includes, former prime ministers, ministers, bureaucrats, and judges too.
Investigation of the case
The representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, along with the India Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), and the Delhi police are investigating the matter.
A case of extortion and cyber terrorism was registered by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police, on November 25.
The investigation of the case includes the scanning and detection of any viruses, from other e-hospital servers located at AIIMS, Delhi, which are required for the delivery of hospital services.
The investigating agencies have reportedly asked the officials of the AIIMS, to block the internet services on the computers of the hospital.
It has to be noted that there are four physical servers that are arranged for restoring the e-hospital services. These servers are scanned and prepared for the use and applications of the databases.
Further actions taken
The network sanitization for AIIMS has already started and various anti-virus solutions have been organized for the servers and computers connected to AIIMS.
Anti-viruses have been installed in almost 1,200 out of 5,000 computers.
Also, 20, out of the total 50 servers, have been scanned, and this activity is going on continuously, as per the reports.
